We have to make an unexpected move to BKK. Fortunately we have not accumulated too much household furniture but what we do have could not fit in a car for a one time pass, and its generally not expensive enough to run multiple trips. Yet, we would still rather not part but take it all with us. I have been considering some means whereby I can modify the car (as I once did in the states) and perhaps a roof rack would enable me to take the remaining items and cross load accordingly (BTW, this was a dumb ass modification on a mustang GT 5.0 liter with nitrous and 4:11 gears. In that case a U Hual trailer config was dumb ass).

I would want to purchase the the service and equip locally. I suspect I would want an enclosed system up top, though not required (opposed to open mesh lattice work for anchoring stuff). I want something quality, safe, and dependable, after all, my wife will be riding up top so it must be secure. Something that when the mission is completed does not substantially alter the performance of the car in and about town either. If any has directions or recomends I would be grateful. If any have only snide or useless guidance, I kindly ask you direct that to folks in World Forum where they daily prepare for such responses; thanks guys (and gals). Gosh I hope you guys can direct me pretty quickly. My lack of planning now constitutes an emergency of sorts.

There is a Thule shop in Central Festival Samui. They may be able to source you a Thule roof rack and box.

Yes! Thanks. My mission in the AM. Glad I checked this at 0212. I am grateful.

It's upstairs on the same side as the True shop.

I simply strapped a bunch of furniture to the top of a Honda (car) moving from Phuket to Hua Hin once, with the straps you can buy in the auto section at Tesco.. Put a foam mattress down first, ran the straps thru the windows on each side, and one down the center from bumper to bumper. Got stopped by the BIB in Champuon because they had never seen that done before and wanted to make sure the load would not shift. No problem, sent me on my way. No issues after that other than the weird looks we got.

Now as far as "after all, my wife will be riding up top so it must be secure'"...some one is not playing with a full deck!

Yea, this could work but I will first go visit the shop others mentioned and see if I can get a framework. We have a name for this in the US (above) and usually when I see it on the road I think how dangerous. I get it though, it was not. It was secured super good. But I just dont want to be that white guy driving down the highway like a tingtong. I may still do it! But I will look for a thule frame first;

Couldn't find it. Looked everywhere. Maybe its gone. Seems a lot of folks wouldn't be buying something like that on vacation. Looks like I will be using plan B, the foam and tie down the other fella suggested. clap2.gif

Make sure you thread ropes thru any furniture openings and not just tie them down. Also if done right you can close the car windows without interference. Now I whish I had a picture of it. Looked radical but worked. Wrap a tarp over the top for any rain issues. Good luck
