The Islands You Can See From Jomtien

Featured Replies

What are they called? I just looked at the map and found Koh Si Chang but when I googled it the advice seems to be that accomodation is limitted. We would like to go away for the weekend from Bangkok, but Pattaya is getting a bit old for us.

Anyone offer any advice as to getting there and staying there. I am such a technonob that searches have revealled nothing.

Thanks for all your kind help

The island you can see from Jomtien is Koh Larn. Koh Si Chang is accessible from Sri Ratcha which is about 20 kms up Sukhumvit from Pattaya. Koh Si Chang has a nice big hotel on it up from the arrival pier turn right and walk 5 minutes towards the big Wat on the hill and it's on the left. The hotel there was 800 baht a night 2 years ago for a room without a view. The hotel was very nice inside. You could also head to the beach on the otherside where they have basic bungalows for 400 baht a night. Personally I prefer Koh Larn, others may disagree but I think the water is clearer there. There is a kind of hotel on the way up the hill on the left on the way to Hat Tha Vien but I don't know how good it is there. Try looking at Koh Samet and Koh Chang as well, they are not that far away.

Thanks chap. We've been to Samet and chang a couple of times. Both are a bit far for a weekend. Around 5 hours driving etc. So, looks like it will be Koh Larn. Just need to find out about ferries.

Cheers

The regular 20 baht ferries go at 10 AM and 12 Noon, pick up at the Bali Hai pier bottom end of Walking Street.

You'll be looking at Koh Laan and Koh Pai. Koh Laan is accessible easily from Pattaya pier. It has a load of restaurants on the beach you arrive on. If you hire a motorbike you can drive over the top - great views - to the other side which is much quieter.

Koh Pai is "ruled" by thre navy and is undeveloped, whether you are thrown off or not depends on the navy. You will have to research getting there, I went in a private boat. There is also a small "monkey island" - pretty horrible if you ask me.....

what one is bum island :D

Take a speedboat over to Koh Larn for 1500-2000bht for the day. :o

Why take a bumpy, expensive, speedboat ride, when you can take a nice leisurely cruise for 20baht ? the boat trip is part of the experience. :D
