Over 1,000 Homes Damaged in Violent Storms

Featured Replies

Violent storms damaged over 1,000 homes and farms in many parts of Thailand late Wednesday. Meteorologists are warning that more violent storms are on the way. Thais should be prepared for more stormy weather in the coming days.

The late Wednesday storms brought powerful winds and heavy rain that damaged more than 1,000 homes as well as rubber and fruit farms. The Nakhon Phanom province was hit hard, with 500 homes damaged. Most of these homes were located in the Phon Sawan district.

About 300 homes were affected in Phrae province, with Wang Chin hit the hardest. Hail damaged 200 homes in Chaiyaphum’s Ban Khwao district. In Sukhothai’s Si Samrong district, 150 homes were damaged and one person was injured. Approximately 80 homes were damaged in Phetchabun’s Lom Sak district.

Over in the Trat province, a storm caused damage to large areas of banana, rubber and durian plantations in the Bo Rai district.

A strong high pressure system moved into the country from China, the Meteorological Department stated. The high pressure system will cause more damaging storms in the coming days, which may include hail. But the storms will bring one good thing: relief from the heat. Temperatures are expected to drop 6-8 degrees Celsius.
