Oil viscosity in 2005 Honda Jazz

Featured Replies

I had my car serviced at Chaiyaphum Honda. I asked the service guy what viscosity of oil. He did not understand. I used my google translator, he still did not understand. While I was asking him this he is showing me the dipstick to show me min/max markings. Then he went to the CVT gearbox dipstick and showed me that, too, with the engine not running. I then tried to ask him : "Does the engine need to be running when you check the CVT oil?" My Thai sucks as he did not have a clue what I was saying.

So I thought I would check it out on the internet and am having difficulty finding info here in Thailand. In Canada, my country, no problem, but the temperatures here are very different and do not vary as they do in Canada. So I am seeking help here:

Oil viscosity?

Engine running for the CVT oil check as one would do for an automatic transmission?

Thanks.

What engine does it have...?

As for the CVT trans, you check it cold with engine off. Start it, put it through the gears in the drive or up the street to circulate the fluid. Engine off, check level, should be between the marks.

1.5 l VTEC

I would use 10w-40 full synthetic in LOS.

A lot of oil here is sold as SAE 40 etc as the country doesn't have cold weather. The lower value is really only necessary in cold countries. Any place that changes oil should have a chart showing what to use for each car. If a Honda dealer doesn't have this or understand walk away. Places like this are often set up with funds from kids selling off parents land with no knowledge of cars or anything for that matter.

Don't have the owner's manual.

I will stop in at Chaiyaphum Honda again or at Nong Khai honda when I go there next week. I think the guy that handled our service did not know, he just writes up the service orders, etc. I will ask to see the Oil container.

Thanks all!!

Honda dealers use 0w 20 or 0w 30.

Maybe so, but in this climate where the engine never gets cold, even if not used, I would use 10w-40.

Id just use what the Honda Factory used from new unless its an old nacker then bung 20/50 and some sawdust in it T.A. Style.cheesy.gif
