You mean the machines sold at Big C, with a booth and a Nestle representative, are a scam?

No, the scam is easy to find on google, but the nestle are just ridiclous: its a water boiler that should cost 300 thb and that they sell 2000 !

The Nescafe Dolce Gusto coffee is also way overpriced, it's at least double the price of what it costs in the UK to buy the capsules.

Pretty tasty stuff and quick to make though.

I believe there was some kind of patent on the capsule system used in nespresso which has now expired.

Assume you talk about the Pixie machine which sells for THB 6'500 (CHF 200) in Switzerland and THB 13'000 on nespresso-thailand website

Same with the capsules that sell for THB35 / piece instead of THB17 here in Switzerland

and there you go... 100% import tax on machines and coffee... say "thank you, Thailand Tax authority"

btw... I supplied 4 friends with Nespresso machines which I brought in as hand-luggage (fully visible) without any issue over the last years.. and capsules on my every visit... that is the way to go, activate people back home to bring it in.

Same applies for green tea.. hard to find bags here for a full pot that don't cost an arm and a leg. Tea is 50% cheaper where i come from. We are not talking about normal English tea but green tee or oolong tea. Both a lot more expensive here.. strange too as its made in Asia.

They charge what you can afford to pay, protectionism, you know Thailand has a coffee industry tooooo.

The coffee capsule's are a new form of processed food loaded with chemicals and calories enjoy your coffee guys, I will stick to my instant at home and a latte when I go out.

Had to be said biggrin.png

The whole capsule system is a scam.

Cheap machines making you dependent of certain capsules which are protected from the competition.

I want to decide on my own which coffee and how much.

complete BS... Nespresso went through dozends of tests over the years and even the most critical test-labs (i.e. Oekotesting in Germany and various other consumer protection labs) have confirmed that it is PURE coffee inside the capsules and they even had to admit that - since Nespresso is offering free recycling of the aluminium capsules - the oeconomic balance does look good..

I use Philips Senseo, from which the coffee pads are also not available in Thailand, but I know there is a Thai manufacturer who makes coffee pads that look almost similar but can't be used in the Senseo, So there must be a Thai coffee machine on the market that uses coffee pads.

import tax is 30% not 100%.

30% is bad enough....

there are lots of machines which grind the coffee and make espresso fully automatic. So no reason to use the capsule if someone don't want to.

Is that so?

Good marketing I think with excellent lobbying from the food group, ever see that film "thank you for not smoking"?

Why does weight watchers program counter count one pod at 2 ? As part as your food tally for that meal/day?

I have that machine was a gift from my daughter and sure I like the odd coffee from it but I can't drink it on a regular basis and since I'm travelling at the moment I can't go to a box of pods and read the ingredients that by Australian law needs to be displayed.

And I hope your saving up all your pods and will deliver safely to one of there recycle branches, by the way where is the Melbourne one located?

Mate your the dreamer in this day and age the only thing you can trust when it comes to food is if you grew it.

Awful lot of numbers I noticed.... Still think it's 100% coffee?

At 329 b a box in BKK that's $AU13.00 and $8.50 at home puts it in the super rich class of poisons, do enjoy your coffee guys.

now when you learn that "nutrition facts" is not the same as "ingredients", then you might realize that 100% coffee broken down to nutrition facts is what you show on the pics... and it is not even pics from Nespresso capsules...

Where on the picture I can read anything that indicates that it isn't 100% coffee?

(I don't like Nestle, but on the picture I can't see anything new)

100 euros = 3546B.. Shipping cost about the same ?

7000 * 1.3*1.07 = 9737

9737 + rent+ fixed costs + mark up + staff costs.

13000 Not much of a scam really is it ?

I'm not going to go through every type of coffee (bah.gif ) on it, but the one I did was 30%.

I am not a fan of these kind of machines. I have only used them when staying at hotel that includes them in the room. Its all about marketing, packaging, more waste. Its been created to sell at xmas with a price tag that makes it "good enough" to give a loved one. It gets used then gathers dust somewhere for the next 10 years.

Great coffee can be had by buying coffee, a caffetiere/ a mocha/ a plastic cup filter thing and paper/ aerobie aeropress etc. these are manually operated and you have more control over how you make your coffee. Theres very little waste, the grounds can be chucked in a plant pot or in your garden. Simple is better.

There is always one who can act as an apologist for a ridiculous mark up.

Yes 3546Bht is the shipping cost because they are brought over by diplomatic courier, and 4000 Baht mark up for rent is also justified, because for every Nespresso machine a separate shop is rented.

Hey, shouldn't they be something like 50.000 Baht to break even?

And there's always one who changes what is said in the post he quotes and thinks other peoples businesses shouldn't make any profit.

So how much does it cost to ship a coffee machine across continents ?

maybe you start importing Nespresso machines and capsules? Or get in touch with them and you can buy the franchise for Thailand?

I also have a Nespresso machine and get my supplies from Hong Kong or Switzerland whenever I travel there. But agree it would be easier to buy it here.

Coffee machines are not imported by individual pieces. A 20' container from Europe to Thailand cost about 1500 US$, and that can contain a lot of coffee machines and other stuff.
