PHUKET: -- A 20-year-old Burmese man was arrested yesterday (April 27) for stabbing a rival to death in front of a Family Mart in Thung Thong, Kathu.

On Saturday (April 25), Thung Thong police were called to Vachira Hospital where a man had died from stab wounds he sustained during an altercation on Phrabaramee Rd.

The victim, a Burmese man named as Jomyotok Somchay, 21, had been stabbed with a sharp object near the collar bone.

After making investigations, at 6:30pm yesterday, Thung Thong police arrested Tepthon, 20, also Burmese, and seized a knife and a Honda Wave that he was driving on the day of the incident. He was arrested inside a worker̕s camp in Moo 6 in Kathu.

Tepthon told police that he and the victim had an argument which broke into a fist fight in front of the Family Mart.

“I stabbed him one time and sped off on the motobike,” Tepthon told police.

Police took Tepthon to Thung Thong Police Station where he faces being charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing death, carrying a weapon in a public place without a permit, and living in Thailand without permission.

And there are those who adamantly swear that the Ko Tao murders last Sept could not have possibly been committed by the two "baby faced" Burmese the police have in custody. Let this be a lesson to you.

Are you a teacher giving lessons in criminology?

Whilst this and the KT murders are deplorable, their only similarity is the alleged involvement of the 2 guys now held in custody, who are Burmese. At this point in time I prefer to consider them innocent until proven guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. A widely accepted legal concept you appear to have already dismissed?

What lesson are you rambling about? I think people adamantly swear that the Koh Tao murders last September couldn't have been committed by the two "baby faced" Burmese is because everyone knows the headman's son did it. I mean, let's not mince words. This is pretty much common knowledge and the fact we have to endure a face saving trail is excruciatingly humiliating to anyone who possesses a brain. When do you ever hear of Burmese messing around with caucasian foreigners, let alone tourists? They don't because for better or worse, they know their lowly place in the pecking order here. A Burmese attacking another Burmese is much more likely as in this story. No, no lessons to be learned here except that there was a horrific murder committed by and covered up by…drum roll….yes, Thais.
