Diamox(Acetazolamide), for altitude sickness, where to buy in Pattaya

I'm going to do some hiking in the Himalayas and wanted to buy Diamox, a medication to prevent and to treat altitude sickness. I've checked a few chemists around Pattaya, including Fascino and none of them had it. Where can I buy it here?

If Fascino doesn't have it, I doubt anywhere else would. You might send an email to this guy at Phyathai Hospital in Sri Racha:

I was prescribed some difficult to obtain drugs for my mother here. No place has them except Fascino or the hospital. Can you do a trip to Bangkok? I was able to get Diamox in Nepal when I did my trip several years ago. Just have to be careful of the source....

Thanks craigt3365 for the info. I was surprised how much cheaper vaccinations are at the Thai Travel Clinic in comparison with prices for the same in Pattaya hospitals. I did not think local hospitals have Diamox but I should ask indeed. I wonder if it's possible to order it online from international suppliers.

Let's move this over to the health forum. I don't know the exact answer, but seem to remember bring in prescription meds via mail is a problem. Maybe others over there can help us!

Topic Moved.

It is available in Thailand, under brand names Diamox and (locally made) Medene. It is just not used very often, and indeed might nto be found in Pattaya. If it can be, Fascino's main branch is the best bet, or could try pharmacies in Chinburi town near the provincial hospital.

Otherwise, in Bangkok, pharmacies on Ratchawithi near Victory Monuement, and also across from Siriraj in Thonburi

You could also try calling the Distributior and asking them for the names/addresses of any pharmacies in Pattaya that they have provided it to:

Medene brand = Pharmaland

Diamox brand = Zuellig

Just buy it in KTM, readily available and cheaper.

Hope you enjoy your trek, can't wait to go back personally, but at the same time I wish I could do more to help the people there affected by the terrible quake.

I'm going to Bhutan, not Nepal. As far as I know Bhutan has not been affected by the quake.
