Popular Post PeVee1st
My son is planning to marry a hi so girl in BKK this year. After the marriage he is planning to settle in his mother in laws home & start a business to allow him to live in Thailand & support his wife. Since starting the wedding plans, his wife to be family keeps asking for more & more money, even after agreeing to earlier plans. Also, I am left out of any planning & have now been asked to fund the marriage. So far his brides family have offered nothing material, just favours from their friends. I think my son is being taken for the proverbial runaround, what do you think?

beachproperty
Personally doesn't sound so "Hi-so" to me. How much is the "sin sot"? Edited May 9, 2015 by beachproperty
PeVee1st
The sin sod was supposed to be for show to save face so my son could invest in the business. The family agreed to this plan, but later changed their minds. Latest I was told was 2 mill.thb.
Popular Post zeichen
Is every Thai with 1/32 chinese HISO? I seriously doubt that this girl is anything more than middle class, but sounds like a bad start. Why isn't her parent's buying her a house to start her life? Why would a Hiso family be so excited to have their daughter marry someone who doesn't have a job or a business to start with? There are probably less than a few thousand Hi-so families in the entire country and if going by this website every single one of them is married to a foreigner. Even a slightly upper class family isn't Hi-So. If your son loves his fiance' and she loves him, then let him do things. In no way are you responsible for your son's wedding. If you want to take on that responsibility that is up to you.
Popular Post beachproperty
2 million thb for sin sod AND they want you to pay for the wedding too!.....Well....sounds like somebody has to start standing up to them otherwise you'll be the laughing stock of the wedding. Popular Post samsensam
i've never dated a hiso girl but i have dated plenty of upper middle class girls with their own apartments, one or two cars, good jobs or own businesses. non ever asked for or expected a penny from me, in fact some were insulted when i offered to pay for them. are you sure this girl is hiso? and if she is why does she need your son's money? what's her job? what do her parents do? you need more information - and if you cant get clear logical answers then get your son out of there fast.
Popular Post zeichen
They are keeping 2 million baht Sinsod and you still think this is a Hiso family. Sorry gold diggers. 2million just for show maybe if both families are well to do or slightly older couple that both have a career. But younger couples just out of University starting a life would not need 2million to give a wealthy family. Sounds like gold digger 101.

Popular Post Blackfox
Jeez, She and her family are not Hi-So. If so, you'd be adding another one or two zeros to that sin sot amount. He's going to start a business to support the new wife. Yeah right. I think you and your kid are a little naive. A sound Thai family will respect decisions prior to marriage. PS: No foreigner in this country is married to Hi-So. Edited May 9, 2015 by Blackfox
Popular Post tifino
why settle on a Premium Economy Class wannabee, when there's so much Business Class around? she's hiso, yet needs support?? Maybe she knows someone, who knows someone, whos's probably not someone in the know anyhows y'know ...and before long, the business will need it's own sangteow, and another different house for the family to park it, because you won't even get the keys...

Popular Post Beetlejuice
Have to laugh, that many farangs believe Thai girls with even the remotest of Chinese ancestry are Hi-so, especially considering probably the majority of Thai people have a Chinese ancestor in their family tree somewhere, including women of ill repute and the underclasses of Thai society. Any decent middle to upper class Thai woman would never consider getting involved with a farang, in fact most Thais believe forming relationships with farangs is a step down the social ladder. I think that if a farang has to buy his way into a relationship with a Thai woman, says a lot about the lack of amour propre regarding all parties concerned. Anyone willing to pay millions of bahts for the hand of a Thai woman, has to be a very sad individual indeed.

Popular Post brewsterbudgen
Hi-so but only a 2 million baht sinsod. Doesn't sound very hi-so to me! Maybe he should have married Chompoo! Thai superstar Araya "Chompoo" A Hargate became engaged to 38-year-old lighting businessman Witsarut "Nott" Rungsisingpipat on Wednesday morning. The groom-to-be presented the 33-year-old actress and model with a "sin sod", or bride price, of assorted jewellery, a condo land title deed, gold and cash with an all-up estimated value of 108 million baht. It included an eight-karat diamond ring and matching 14-karat earrings. Ten 10 Mercedes Benz sedans carried the sin sod to the engagement ceremony at the Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok. The high-profile couple have known each other for six years.

Popular Post The Fat Controller
I am married to a middle class Thai lady and neither of us have any issues with her family or friends. I do admit some of her friends find me a bit of a novelty but none of them think my wife has married below herself. One of her middle class Thai-Chinese friends has a foreign boyfriend and the family will not accept their relationship and consequently he has never been to see any of her family. Every family is different, but a true HiSo girl would probably never get involved with a foreigner UNLESS the guy is famous and rich, so to the OP, if they are asking for money already your son is either being scammed or marrying into a family that has serious financial problems.

If they did, this probably wouldn't be a third world country. Any Chinese-Thai I've met (and there are many, purely on a professional basis I might add) are all diligent, intelligent, financially tuned in and ambitious. Therefore, most Thais do not have Chinese ancestors. No disrespect to you or the Thais intended. Edited May 9, 2015 by djayz
Popular Post djayz
To the OP: If your son is old enough to get married, he's also old enough to make his own decisions and mistakes in life, irrespective of whether or not you agree with him. At best, have a word with him, man-to-man, but don't interfer too much. See to it that you don't get dragged into this. Enjoy your life and let him make his own way in life.
