NESDB: 4 major factors in Thai society

BANGKOK, 26 May 2015, (NNT) - The Office of National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) has urged the government to follow closely four influential factors affecting Thai society, while asking raise the smoking age to 20.

NESDB Deputy Secretary-General Chutinart Wongsuban explained the four indicators range from farmers’ income to labor shortages.

She said the government should pay attention to the declining income of agricultural operators affected by drought, adding that the production and service sectors are facing a similar issue due to reduced work hours.

The second factor is the unemployment rate, Ms. Chutinart said, citing more graduates are entering the labor market at a time where labor demand is low.

The third factor is the lack of skilled labor and the fourth is the preparedness of human resources for future infrastructure development projects.

Meanwhile, the board also suggested that the government urgently impose a new tobacco law that bans cigarette sales to minors below the age of 20.
