Hi,recently applied for a Visit Visa for my GF to accompany me on a 3 week Holiday,we seem to have the required paperwork covered, but also I have return flights booked already as I was first led to believe that you had to show these !

Should we disclose these at the Visa Office or will it go against us ?

Thanks in advance.

It says on the website that you should not buy tickets before the Visa is approved or rejected, you can book with an agent who can hold the tickets without buying them.

If your GF does not get a visa, you have lost the money if the airtickets are non refundable

Thanks for the reply beano2274,the tickets are refundable with a minimum cancel fee and can also change date for a min. charge. Just wondered if it was worth telling them in my Sponsor letter ?

Just got ours without flights as they are no longer required. I wouldnt mention that you have them.

But we took the view that they have many applications so we tried to make it easy for them,.

We put everything required in a 20 leaf plastic file and made a contents list at the front. Actually made it easy for us too as we got all the stuff together.

Good luck.

It will not go against you, but no need to declare them. You might say (in the 'how much will the trip cost' section) flights are already paid for so accommodation and living expenses will only be XXX.

The last 4 visas I obtained all had pre-booked flights.

No guarantee, but IMO a pre-paid return flights adds a bit of weight to the reasons to return.

I still work Offshore and have proof of earnings and Employers Certificate I have lived in Thailand for 13yrs and have all my Visa stamps,my GF and I have lived together for 3.5yrs,we both have kids in Thailand but they will not be going to UK with us due to Schooling .

Thanks

Hi Jip99,thanks for your reply. I was thinking the same as you that it would show we would be returning to Thailand, also we both have kids who will be staying in Thailand due to schooling, another reason for returning.

A return ticket for your girlfriend isn't a reason to return whether it's prepaid or postpaid. Your girlfriend having kids doesn't add a lot of weight either.

Have a read of this thread:

Since UKVI specifically advise applicants not to book or pay for tickets until after the visa is granted, then doing so will not add anything to the application.

If someone is attempting to enter the UK as a visitor but intends to remain, e.g. to work illegally, then losing the cost of the return part of a ticket would be a minor expense to them.

However, applicants do need to show they have sufficient funds available to them with which to purchase a ticket, and if they have done so prior to submitting the application then showing this in the application wont hurt.

But it wont really help, either. It certainly wont swing the balance if the ECO has serious doubts about an applicant leaving the UK after their visit.

I don't have an answer for Remote's Post.

But I was told by email from the Thai Consulate General in Salt Lake City that I would have to include copies of flight tickets with the application for a Tourist Visa there, i.e book my flights from the U.S. before making the app. for the visa to Thailand.

With respect, the OP is asking about a UK visa, not a Thai one.

Different countries have different requirements and not only are return tickets not required in a UK visit visa application, UKVI specifically advise against purchasing them until the visa is granted.

However, on arrival UK immigration may ask a visitor to show that they have a return or onward ticket or the means with which to purchase one; from their own or another's resources.

I don't know how often they do this, but no visitor I have sponsored over the last 15 years has been asked to do so.
