NHSO includes private clinics in Family Doctor campaign

BANGKOK, 2 June 2015 (NNT) – The National Health Security Office (NHSO) has started integrating private clinics in Bangkok into the Family Doctor team to provide better access to medical services for Bangkok residents.

NHSO Deputy Secretary-General Prateep Dhanakijcharoen has revealed that the NHSO has been allocating a higher budget to 150 private clinics in Bangkok under the Warm Community Clinic campaign, to set up the Family Doctor team that will provide medical care to people living in housing estates in 200 pilot communities.

He has said that the campaign will be extended into other communities is there is a positive result.

Despite the current 50,000 Family Doctor teams active nationwide, the campaign still faces an accessibility problem in Bangkok due to the limited number of staff, dense population, complex social structures, and the fact that most residents live in housing estates and condominiums. Therefore the NHSO says it is necessary to include private clinics as part of this campaign.

The Family Doctor team campaign was initiated by the Ministry of Public Health during late 2014 to take care of the people’s well-being, especially the elders, persons with disabilities, and immovable patients.
