Thailand's anti-trafficking operations win praise from international community

BANGKOK, 3 June 2015 (NNT) - Deputy Police Commissioner-General Aek Angsananont has revealed that Thailand’s anti-trafficking operations have won applause from the international community.

Speaking after a meeting with representatives of various countries and international organizations this morning, Pol Gen. Aek said they appreciated the sincere and serious efforts of the Thai government to end the Rohingya crisis but expected to see stronger suppression of human trafficking in all aspects from the police.

They were assured that Thai police have done so. Thailand also called on the U.S. to consider better ranking in human trafficking, added Pol Gen Aek.

Moreover, the Foreign Affairs Division of the Royal Thai Police is in the process of sending official requests, through the Interpol, to involved countries for search and arrest of people behind human trafficking network who fled to their countries. Information sharing about the matter was also among Thai requests to these countries.

On Wednesday 3 June 2015, Thailand and Malaysia will set up a center for investigation of Rohingya graves along the Thai-Malaysian border in order to locate route of Rohingya smuggling. The information will be used to supplement evidence on the case which the Police expected to file to the court within 20 June 2015.

Secretary-General of the Anti-Money Laundering Office Seehanat Prayoonrat said that his office will cooperate with the police on further confiscation of assets from suspected human traffickers. So far, over a hundred million baht worth of the assets have been seized.

"Speaking after a meeting with representatives of various countries and international organizations this morning....."

But the report fails to name any of the countries or organisations.

This hardly warrants the headline claiming praise from the international community.

Typical propagandist reporting.

One country probably said something like: "Well, at least you made a start.", which the Thai then translate to mean "international praise".

I think you've nailed it in one.

It was probably the 17th assistant associate director's secretary's 3rd assistant paper clip purchasing officer from the Ugandan Ministry of Paper Clip Compliance and Purchasing that made the comment. facepalm.gif

Don't knock it - there is a lot of money to be made from purchasing paper clips in the Ugandan government.

He'll be an important and influential chap, just the sort that Thailand needs, especially now Obamas no longer onside as it were.

Maybe it was a meeting of the new 'Friends of Thailand' group trying to work out what they had in common.
