Good if they want some kind of political peace they have to talk to each other

That is part of it, but also tone down the rhetoric. These "politicians" still spew hatred via various media outlets. Even my maid, who is hard core red-shirt, says she's getting tired of them "yak yaking" about the military, elites, yellow shirts, etc.

So why was reconciliation only given two hours time a year ago and now that they have failed in everything they have done, they have brought the same parties to the same venue for reconciliation ? There can't be reconciliation without justice, freedom of speech and the freedom to choose a constitution written by the people for the people (or atleast choose between the constitutions of 1997, 2007 or 2015).

it really is quite simple. No freedom = no reconcilliation or peace ever = freedom of press and speech is mandatory.

The generals seem to have a problem with that and they are scared to death.

I'm pretty sure the Pheu-Thai/Red-Shirt plan is to keep quiet and be good boys until the Army are out then go back to business as usual.

They don't own the police right now so they can't get away with their dirty business of threats/intimidation etc. etc. etc.

It's almost painful to watch it all happen when you know they have no intention of changing. You can't develop ethics or morals overnight.

What chance reconciliation when you get yellow cheerleaders spewing bile like this character. Never seen him write one pleasant word. Unfortunately there are plenty more like him on that side of the political divide.

"Army Chief-of-Staff Gen Chatchalerm Chalermsuk, who chaired the meeting, was open for suggestions from all sides."

For starters, how about the military give sovereignty back to the Thai people, followed shortly thereafter with their rights, liberties, and elections?

It's delusional for anyone to think that the military can facilitate reconciliation between ideologically opposed political parties when it insists on holding its own ideology superior to all others. The military essentially operates as an arbitraitor instead of a mediator. Can you imagine any suggestion that doesn't PROTECT and PRESERVE military power would be received?

This meeting is just a show of intimidation by who holds the reins of power - a not so subtle reminder on an army post by army officers that military political decorum is to be obeyed. This meeting might be used to reinforce control of political party behavior with possible upcoming constitution referendum and elections. Or the lack of either!

Apparently some here dont even seem to want to have them sit down and talk.... interestingly but maybe unsurprisingly it seems to be coming from the camp that cannot win an election gigglem.gif

Agree but it's still a necessary forum for any form of transition.

Were PTP known for taking the opposition, minorities or taking anyone else's opinion into consideration - don't think so. Just one man's view.

They weren't prepared to talk, be accountable or transparent. Now, when much of their wrongdoing is being exposed they whine and want "reconciliation" which for them means amnesty.

Winning an election, with a large minority is one thing. Doing as you please, breaking laws, lying, cheating and thieving is something else. All now conveniently under the shroud of "politically motivated".

We didn't have freedom of speech under the previously elected government. Were the previous elected officials afraid of that? Absolutely. Look what's coming to light now. Reports of massive corruption.
