22 Arrested Over Yala Bombing Spree
By Khaosod English

YALA — Thai authorities have arrested 22 suspects in connection with a three-day spate of bombings in the southern border province of Yala that injured nearly 20 people last month.

According to Col. Isra Chantakrayom, commander of the 41st Ranger Division, security officers tracked down the suspects using CCTV footage and witnesses' testimonies.

The bombings, which rocked Yala between 14 - 16 May, injured 18 people, including children. Police say at least 56 homemade explosives were detonated throughout the weekend.

Although the explosions themselves were relatively small, the incident was one of the most coordinated attacks to strike the insurgent-torn region in recent months.

Col. Isra said the 22 suspects, who were arrested on 2 June, have not been formally charged wiht a crime, except for one man who already had a pre-existing arrest warrant on him for separate charges.

"As for the detention of these 22 suspects, I insist that we will quickly interrogate them, and once the interrogation determines that they are not related to the incident, they will be immediately released," Col. Isra explained. "Their relatives have already have been informed."

so they are already admitting that they are not involved in the crimes? So why are they interrogating them?

Police round up 22 in hunt for Yala bombers
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A total of 22 suspects have been apprehended for questioning over their alleged involvement in the series of 56 small bombings at 44 locations in Yala's Nakhon Yala Municipality.

Three had confessed to the bombings of May 14-16, commander of the 41st Ranger Regiment Task Force reported Wednesday. The bombings led to 18 injuries and wide property damage.

Colonel Isara Janthakayom said the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 and the Southern Border Province Police Bureau had met six times to hunt for the culprits based on evidence, particularly security camera footage.

During the bombings' investigation, a pick-up truck hijacking occurred in Yaha district and the authorities retrieved the vehicle on May 31, he said. On Tuesday, security officers searched nine targeted locations in the Nakhon Yala Municipality and brought in for questioning 22 suspects for both truck hijack and bombings, he added. Three suspects confessed to involvement in the May 14-16 bombings, he said.

Isara said the suspects' questioning would be carried out speedily so those deemed innocent could be quickly released. He said relatives of the suspects were informed about the procedure.

The all-seeing eye only seeing the wrong in what people are reported as saying. It is probably NOT what he said in Thai at all. But it is probably what the journo translated it as. Close enough for most of us with only 1/2 a brain working to understand what he probably meant, (and to guess what he actually said)
