Lottery board surveys market, finds vendors asking for tips

BANGKOK: -- The Government Lottery Office (GLO) board is now conducting survey to gather information for evaluation of the lottery price control, and will launch a 24-hour hotline to take complaints about unfair lottery ticket prices.

But as price control is in place, some lottery vendors also put up small signs asking customers to give them tips, in addition to paying 80 baht for the ticket.

GLO board spokesperson Thanawat Polwichai, along with police officers yesterday visited lottery selling stalls at Mor Chit 2 Bus Terminal and Victory Monument to gather information to present the findings to the GLO board on June 11, after the 80-baht price control is now in force.

Thanawat said authorities would be inspecting both areas daily, to randomly pick out a lottery vendor and ensure that none of the vendors are overpricing the lottery tickets.

If any vendor is suspected of selling lottery tickets at a higher price than the control price of 80 baht a pair, that suspected vendor would be questioned and if found guilty would be suspended from the lottery quota and face prosecution.

Furthermore, the general public could also report irregular or unusually high pricing of lottery tickets through the office’s 24-hour hotline at Tel 02-345-466.

He bought five lottery tickets and gave a 20-baht tip to the seller.

He said the vendors are allowed to have Tip Box set up at their stalls, but the lottery tickets must be priced clearly at only 80 baht.

Meanwhile lottery vendors in the provinces are complaining that the lottery quotas they had received were not enough for them to create profit, prompting many retailers to forego the selling of the lottery tickets for the coming draw and have suggested that the GLO review the price control.

Nonetheless, lottery sellers in some provinces are voicing that they are gaining more income as more people have decided to try their lucks with the lottery due to the lower prices of lottery tickets.

Meanwhile lottery vendors in the provinces are complaining that the lottery quotas they had received were not enough for them to create profit,

Probably it wil not create the same thieving profits as when they could ask whatever they wanted for a ticket.

Now if the quotas are not big enough to create a profit, that means there are too many sellers for the tickets that can be sold, so learn the lesson and look for a real job instead of sitting on you lazy arse in front of a bank or shopping center all day.

If they are selling the tickets at 80 baht, what are they buying them for?

Sure seems like a lot of them around the place, so there must be some money to be made out of selling the tickets.

What's the difference between a lottery ticket vendor selling lottery tickets and someone sitting in a shop selling something or someone sitting in a bank selling bank services? There is no difference at all, so that makes them all lazy bums in your eyes.

Why don't you offer them all a job?

They are bought for 70-something baht. Of course there is profit in selling them, why else would they do the job?

Just knew they would find a way around the price fix of 80 THB,

"tips", just hope it does not end up like U.S.A. .

regards Worgeordie

They haven't found a way around the official price, giving tips is voluntary and is not a new thing.

That is extremely harsh.

All any seller does is wait for customers.

So you think there is no difference between someone servicing a bank counter all day, or someone keeping a shop tidy while at the same time helping out customers, and someone sitting on his lazy arse all day?

Do you have a job for me, I'm pretty good in the latter description?

A bit like sitting on your arse at a keyboard all day criticising someone trying to earn a living. But guess that's same same but different.

Do you realize how many are sold for 120 plus Bhat.

They especially hit and take advantage of the unaware tourists everywhere.

If it cost's them 70 that 50 spread or approximately 70% markup?

They sell 6 tickets they've made the average daily pay of a Thai citizen working 8+ hours..

Minimum wage for a Thai citizen, not average daily pay.

Well Sir, and that is where the real problem lays. The sale of tickets is supposed to be done by poor and disabled, but that particular group of the population represented only a small percentage of the people who really profited from the sales.

Next time I advise that you first open your eyes before you open your mouth.

Do I rip off people while sitting on my arse behind my keyboard, or am I self sufficient?

Ripping off people by charging 70% on top of the official price isn't making a living, it's thieving.

I would like to know what the GLO expects the end retailer to earn if the ticket is sold at 80 baht ?

Has anyone seen the projected margins for each of the distributors along the chain to the eventual buyer ?

I suspect there may not be many tickets sold from the GLO this month .............but the Underground Lottery may flourish !

Right, I have never, in 6 years, seen a tourist buy a lottery ticket from a vendor. They wouldnt even know what to do with them, much less how tocheck if they won. Lets see you work all day for 100-200 baht. No? Didn't think so. Typical barstool warriror living off daddies money.

is that a new stipulation along with the 80b price ceiling ?

Not really, that has always been the intention.

No but it aught to be, ticket price is 7.40 bht a profit of 9.60 bht per ticket sold sell a 1000. and you are doing pretty good 9,600 bht every 15 days better than working and a lot more than others with skills.but think about selling at 120 per ticket 49,600 bht per 15 days, the mind boggles no wonder there are so many of them i am surprised they all don't have Rollers or Merces lol, oh they probably do whistling.gifwhistling.gif
