Phuket disaster teams to hold tsunami drill in Patong

The tsunami drill will begin in Patong at 10am.

PHUKET: -- The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM-Phuket) will hold a tsunami evacuation drill and emergency-response drill in Patong on Tuesday morning (June 9).

The exercise will begin at 10am, with the tsunami warning siren and evacuation notices being played from the towers along the beachfront.

The simulation will affect Soi Bangla, and Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong will present to observe the simulation.

Messages played through the warning towers will announce when the exercise is over.

Mmm... will it be a worthwhile excercise this time of year, when on the beach last Friday morning there was hardly any people there after the brilliant rule alterations carried out and lack of punters bothering. With all the officials appearing at least in one area it may look busy, maybe all the anti sunlounger and this is a great improvement brigade can fall out and give their support now things are how they like them...? then clean up some of the $hite lying about since the vendors are no longer there keeping things clean in there old areas - just an observation, oh forgot the Jet ski boys can give support too ehh
