I was just thinking back to when my friend came over to visit from Australia and I remembered an incident that was quite funny. My wifes family and I organised a bit of a gathering of family (Thai party) for him on his last night. He managed to learn a few Thai words while here, words like (men, ron, pet etc)

We were having a few drinks and eating when someone must have passed wind so loadly he points at me and says to everyone (He men).

English -- He

Thai -- Men

Say it all as Thai and not so polite.

There was a dead silence for about 5 seconds and than everyone pretended that nothing happened. I was rolling around the floor for about 5 minutes. It certainly silenced the room.

I know it was one of those you had to be there situations but I would like to hear yours if you have any as I think alot of us here can relate to them.

was in a guesthouse in Banglampoo many years ago and was joking a little with the girl behind reception about some of the rude phrases in Thai and Isarn dialect. She asked if I had heard 'see gan' or 'see' a very crude Isarn way of saying to have sex. Not long after she had said it an English guy that stayed there now and again came in to see a mate called Ben. The girl jokingly said to him 'Maa Thamay' and he replied

Maa.. Thai

See.. English

Ben

Which had her crying with laughter
