Ah, just noticed this part "The index is based on responses from 84,000 drivers who have bought or leased a 2015 car or truck model. It is based on defects or problems in the first 90 days of ownership.". With the build quality of quite a few of the high ranked cars the problems will start after 1-2-3 years. And the biggest problem was the infotainment system, like bluetooth not pairing.

All in all IMO a meaningless survey.

Yes, the JD Power Initial quality survey is questionable with measurement of quality based on number of complaints to US dealers in first 90 days. There is another JD Power "dependability" survey for 3 year old cars with some difference in rankings!, http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2015-vehicle-dependability-study

Interesting comment in both surveys referring to infotainment systems being major causes of problems and therefore low quality rankings. I wonder if there is any weighting for cost or significance. I.E. does a crappy Bluetooth system complaint count the same as an engine failure?

Agree, without that kind of information this is just some numbers being thrown around. Judging by the article though it is purely about number of complaints.

Also agree with IMHO, this has no bearing at all on cars bought here.

All pretty much irrelevant as none of these are Thai sourced. We're not buying the same machines.

Yes true but some imports here would be similar but even then the infamous infotainment systems often vary market to market.

Great Press for Hyundai and Kia in the US though. Interesting how they are at the other end of the field for 3 year old cars.
