It's people who's lives have problems.

Specifically, thailand attracts those who need prostitutes because they are either not successful, young or mentally put together enough to get laid regularly in their home countries without paying for it.

You do the math.

If I may correct you,

It's for guys who are too old to get women they find attractive in their home countries.

Anyone (almost) can score a minger!

OP:

You been to Chipolte's Mexican Grill yet?

Hard to get out of there for less than $12.50 (400 baht), huh? That really sucks, especially for what: a tin foil wrapped lukewarm burrito and a small lemonade?

Compare that to a 40 baht bowl of delicious steaming hot baa mii piset noodles loaded with muu daang pork.

I feel your pain. I'd be looking for someone to lash out at too if I were in your shoes.

Just promise me you won't shoot anyone, OK?

Yea honestly, I'll pass on the 40 baht noodle in favor of some raw little neck (atlantic hard shell clams) on the half shell, some oysters on the grill and some baked flounder...( The bounty of Rhode Island !)I can do all of that in my kitchen for well under $10 (especially if I harvest it all myself!) and to be honest it beats the hell out of noodles with Mu dang...stuff really isn't that impressive...

Yeah, really great if you're gay, undersexed or prepared to share a bed with a 200 pounder.

Me, I'll take the noodles and a 45Kg female bedmate.

Who isn't divorced?

If you get married, it's gonna happen.

(Unless one of you is lucky enough to die first)

Post again in 5 years, and you'll be telling us how she took you for everything you had in the USA, and how you wished you'd never moved back there. It's inevitable!

Always good to look on the optimistic side. biggrin.png

I have been married to my Thai wife for 32 years and have many farang friends both in Thailand and abroad who have been married to Thai women for well over 20 years, have families and extremely settled and happy with their lives.

You and some others like you may have been unlucky, but as a whole, men only get the women they deserve. I can assure you that what you say does not represent a great many of us.

My advice to the OP is; always use common sense, never get into things over his head, be patience and work hard for a secure and positive future.

The OP is still a very young man and seems to be trying to find a direction in his life. Wishing him and his wife prosperity for the future.

That has been my experience as well. Married to a Thai for 30+ years, raised a family here and never regretted a minute of it.

Why do people keep quoting two sentence paragraphs about where they are and how long they are married???

I need to write a nutshell quote like this also.

Can also be used as an opening line for people you meet:

"my names Chris, been a thailand expats going on 10 years now, married to a beautiful wife, rich and ex-cia consultant, gimme an S for $200 pat!"

The worst part about the last part you wrote is that it's probably based on all the failed relationships you have seen in Thailand...I really can't blame you because a successful relationship between a falang and thai is an exception rather than the rule.....but usually there is usually an age discrepancy (not always) and quite often the woman are ex bar girls...

I met my wife when I was in the United States visiting from Thailand (she was on a J1 visa at the time, we were living in each others respective countries). We are the same age, she is well educated and comes from an incredible family...there are no guarantees in life but I'm willing to make that 5 year bet with you....

meanwhile, here's to summer in New England..!

"a successful relationship between a falang and thai is an exception rather than the rule.:

How could you possibly have the information to support this view, which is really nothing more than an unsubstantiated & biased assumption on your part?

All the noise is made by the unsuccessful ones ( many of whom were equally unsuccessful in farang & farang relationships which is why they left farang land in the first place). All those who are doing fine have no reason to start threads complaining about anything ... and let's face it most poster initiated threads to do with life in Thailand are started by whingers and whiners.

For all those who are in good relationships, starting a thread with "My wife and I are doing fine" is simply going to get ripped to sheds by the losers, so they remain quiet ... and most likely they are a quiet majority.

I was probably just giving into them by saying it was the exception rather than the rule, probably just subconsciously trying to make THEM feel better about themselves because many times a person like this has been personally screwed over themselves by a Thai....

and yes many poster initiated threads about Thailand are many times indeed started by whiners and whingers, though they are almost always commented on by a few Thai apologists as wellwink.png

So an American who was working in Thailand as a teacher marries a highly educated Thai girl from an incredible family and they move back to the USA because he has better opportunities there.

So what's the part you maybe aren't telling us?

Give me a break...

I just got back from a week in Seatttle and went to either Pike Place Market, University Seafood, Whole Foods, Safeway, QFC practically every day. A meal like the one you described would probablty cost $40 to prepare at home in America these days.

$39.00/pound for peeled jumbo shrimp

$15.00/pound for salmon

%40.00/pounddungeness crab meat

$40.00/pound Alaskan King crab legs

$15.00 + tax + tip for a mushroom burger with aioli dressing

$12.00 + tax + tip for a spinach salad

$5.00 for a draft beer at a pizzeria

$2.00 for a small bottle of water or soda at Walgreen's

$6.00 for a large capachino

$6.00/pound for most pork cuts

$5.99/pound for chicken breast

$7.80 + tax + tip for a mediteranian falafel from a food truck

$11.99 + tax + tip for a plate of paad thai in a Thai restaurant. (I didn't eat there; just looked at a menu posted in the window.)

These are just a small sampling of the prices I encountered on my trip. Imagine my dismay after having been told on TVF that it was actually cheaper to live in the US these days than in Thailand!

I am specifically talking about flounder which is $7.99/lb generally at th fish market. I eat about a half a pound (less than 4 dollars)...a few clams ($1.50 a piece) and a few oysters ($2.00) ok yea a little over $10 but not a whole lot..Anyway, I honestly could think of worse things to spend money on besides food...

I just exactly wanted to hear you say that there is nothing at all about any of your above posts about yourself that you aren't telling us.

BTW other than not having financial difficulties and never been having been married or divorced in the USA, I might be one of those persons you so aptly describe in your Post #1.

BTW2: I don't drink beer or other alcoholic beverages. I prefer Singha Soda with lime.

IF you are indeed one of those people, then good on you because at least you would be owning up to it instead of many I have met who will insist they left home on their own accord at free will and how it's their decision and they are in SELF imposed exile in LOS when in reality is they are running and hiding from something...

After having traveled in Asia mainly PRChina for business purposes and having spent 3 extended stays in Thailand at a Foundation Under Royal Patronage, I was bored in the USA and decided to move

Some people just move to Thailand for a fresh start. Maybe I didn't have an alpha-man lifestyle in the USA, but my main attraction to young Thai women (other than money as some will quickly intone) is that I spoke reasonable Thai and had no problem conversing with those who spoke no English and had never before even met a farang.

So now on occasion, when I tell a Thai girl that I am going back to the USA, they say 'Oh are you going to visit all your girlfriends?' I say that as far as girlfriends in the USA, you have no idea that pretty much they were few and far between.

I admit to not reading all of your ramble,,,

But will comment anyhow.

You need to realize that thailand is a magnet for people with problems, financially and especially personal and psych stuff including relationships. It's also a common first destination to run to because it's easy, safe etc. which tends to intensify this stuff when people first arrive.

Once you figure this out you can stop analyzing expats you meet there. It's simply not worth your time other then an amusing hobby.

Yes I tend to agree but "people in general" have problems, dont they, wherever they live or holiday?

This s not unique to Thailand, maybe they are just more under the microscope here and there "problems" much more apparent, especially when they post on here!

It's people who's lives have problems.

Specifically, thailand attracts those who need prostitutes because they are either not successful, young or mentally put together enough to get laid regularly in their home countries without paying for it.

You do the math.

So what brings you to Thailand then and which category do you fit into, or are you in the Thai elite club.....

More to the point though, men as they get older after going through relationships and they have broke down with heart ache and financial problems, some don't want to get into another realtionship anymore and would rather have a pay for play scenario with a prostitute, it can actually work out far cheaper....

SO you do the MATH hey....

Post again in 5 years, and you'll be telling us how she took you for everything you had in the USA, and how you wished you'd never moved back there. It's inevitable!

Not inevitable, possible maybe, but not even probable,

Plenty of Happily married Farang/Thai couples in the west, I know many, me being one.

So not inevitable

As for the rest of the OP, Many different "farangs" here , from many different backgrounds .with different personalities, please don't take your limited exposure , and apply it to all those that you have never met.

Your situation is not the only one

Good words.. though I have seen the not so good in people, I have also made some friendships that started when I first started living in Thailand/Laos that are still thriving today with both falang and natives...so thank you for reminding me of the good....

Different people come t Thailand for different reasons and find them selves in different venues, Thus exposed to different

to people with different motivations. Like any other part of the world, not all people are the same.

I was lucky to meet my wife at a professional venue, and got exposed to a different Thailand than some of the people who meet their wives in a tourist area. Not to say that all of the girls that work in the tourist industry are bad, not even to say that most,

many of them are very good girls, but at the same time there are many that are not. the same is true for the farangs who frequent there.

To use an extreme example , if you frequent whorehouses, dont be surprised if all you meet are whores

When I am in Thailand, and I go there every year and spend a couple of months, I never spend time with an other Farang, not because I avoid them, but because there is no need or opportunity.

I am there with my wife, we spend time with her family and friends, they are all very nice people, I some times meet other farangs while shopping, we say hello. ask where we are from chat for a min and good buy.

I think you find Laos more attractive because it is not as developed as Thailand. The "disneworld" atmosphere has not developed yet and the people are more genuine. But if you get away from the Thai tourist areas I think you can find the same in Thailand

Anyway, the US could be good for you and your wife, plenty of opportunity for both of you there, but dont write off Thailand as of yet, You are young, plenty of time ahead of you to explore all the other Thailands you might not be aware of yet.

And remember as you get older your tastes change, and things you once thought of very important. no longer are.

Good Luck

No wonder the Thai education is so bad when people like the OP gets away with teaching English for so long. Having been living in Thailand for nearly

if your hang up is about a mistake that I made when I wrote the headline, I'm sorry I just can't help you. I also noticed the jumbled, fumbled tag littered with bad grammar...I would have liked to have edited it but didn't..

Again, I apologize for the god awful travesty..

I can't speak the the rest of the world, but it seems much easier to laid in the U.S. than in Thailand.

I would change that to 'it is much easier to get laid in Thailand to a beautiful woman than in the US'.

That is even if you keep prostitution out of it.

Aptly enough another viewpoint posted today by someone in another media FB that had intended to move back there

.....after 2 months of observation of what he sees of his country now - US - he is moving his family back to LOS.....people of whom I value their opinion and are well off in the US cannot believe how bad it has gotten there.....Some are stuck by circumstances while others are researching where to move to.....More people are leaving than ever before and the pace is accelerating.....

Believe the OP is too busy beating his own drum to let the facts get in the way.......

Possum is right, would be similar to me making some bad accounting decision when I said it was my job. Makes you look real foolish and even more so if I try to act like its nothing. No pride in ones job no wonder your trying to put others down you could not even teach English here.

I also don't care much about grammar as I am not a native speaker of the English language, but if i made mistakes in my field of expertise id feel ashamed and would apologize for it not act like its nothing.

I was running from the police and a bonkers ex-wife who kept reporting me for attempted rape, attempted murder, stalking and trying to visit my children.

Had to stay out of the country for 6 months while my brief negotiated compensation and they were trying to fit me up so they didn't have to pay any.

In the end I settled out of court for 10,000gbp (unlawful arrest), their internal investigation cost another 100,000gbp.
