Prajin assures CTX scanners at Suvarnabhumi accredited by US and function properly

BANGKOK: -- Transport Minister ACM Prajin Juntong says the CTX luggage scanners at Suvarnabhumi airport are accredited by the US and they functioned properly although they have been used for over 10 years.

His assurance of the efficiency of the scanners came as criticism rose over the functioning of the scanners saying they failed to detect the mini revolver taken on board the plane by the former Bangkok police chief.

ACM Prajin insisted that the airport’s CTX scanners still function properly and met international safety standard.

He said the CTX scanners were regularly accredited by the US Transport Security Administration (TSA).

The latest check of the CTX system was conducted last year and they all are still functioning properly.

He confirmed that Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang did neither brought the handgun in his carry-on baggage or loaded in the plane.

Besides, he said the former Bangkok police chief was not granted any special privilege while undergoing security check at a VIP channel.

But he admitted that the incident now prompted the need to look into other factors as from now authorities could work more difficultly.

As Bangkok Post reported, in response to questions about the CTX scanners at Suvarnabhumi storing X-ray images of passengers’ luggage for only three days, he said he had no information whether it was technically possible to save luggage X-ray information for longer periods.

But he said he would rather not interfere in that particular matter

Airport of Thailand’s board chairman Prasong Poontaneat said if the former police officer was proved to have brought a gun with him while travelling, he could face a maximum fine of 80,000 baht and a two-year prison sentence.

However, Mr Prasong said the AoT did not have the authority to pursue legal action against him but the airline did.

This is cold comfort fact, taking into account the fact that only 10 days ago it was revealed

that the TSA has failed 96% to detects prohibited items such as fire arms and explosives

from be boarding planes....

Just like the bomb detectors the army purchased ?

I think you'll find Thaksin may have had something to do with the deal on these scanners.....apparently, someone managed to buy enough of these rather expensive units, for several airports.......but all legit of course!!

People seem to be conflating two separate and distinct bomb detector incompetence/fraud and corruption issues.

The GT200, fake hand-held "divining rods", more incompetence/fraud than outright corruption. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GT200

CTX "scandal": bribery, corruption, inside source over-pricing. The scanners themselves work fine, are used everywhere, presumably as long as they have enough, are maintained and utilized properly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption_in_the_Suvarnabhumi_Airport_project

FWIW, in April, security at Suvarnabhumi did find the small pocket knife I had unintentionally put in my carry-on. The secondary checker fished it out said "cannot", I said " yep" and that was that.

Even though the GT 200's are proven to be fake, the army has refused to stop using them.

The GT 200's may not detect anything but the seller certainly discovered thainess!

Because this person said the TSA did this or that, is not necessarily fact. Please provide a link to your statement. Thank you.

No doubt the scanners work fine, but it still takes the operator to act on something that the scanner 'reveals'.

So what did he do? Send it by post to his hotel in Japan?

Yes yes we remember the scanner deal and how GE (US company) seemed to have inadvertently provided Sondhi and cronies with their only hard evidence. The usual thai accusations and counter accusations melt into mush.

However that is not the issue. I am sure the works fine.I really do not understand all the TV people who somehow believe he would risk putting a gun through scanners, especially when he KNOWS these people. They never scanned it, and somehow that confuses and upsets the TV faithful.

As a VIP they did a hand inspection and sent him on his merry way with a respectful nod and wink. What is so hard to understand about this whistling.gif

There we go : he did his job perfectly and this proves it. His 'face' remains 100% intact.

Oh, hang on : we have the hard evidence of the guy admitting it was in his checked baggage so the above statement must be a complete crock. The man has stood up and made an idiot of himself : 'face' 100% in tatters.

This horse and pony show is getting more and more ridiculous by the hour ... How many incompetent idiots have now made statements that everybody can see is a lie ... ?

Camron(half)wit went through security with the gun and brought the gun on the Thai Airways plane, he was then arrested by a real policeforce (not these RTP baboons in uniform) and he will now serve time in a japanese prison ... 55555 God I love it clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

BTW ICAO will axe Thai aviation in due time and by god they deserve it ... thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif
