BANGKOK: -- Senior political figures from both sides of the camps attended a reception celebrating the 239th anniversary of the Independence of the United States Thursday night.

The government’s camp was led by Deputy Prime Minister ML Panadda Diskul and Energy Minister Narongchai Akarasaranee as well as Minister of Science and Technology Pichet Durongkaveroj.

On the Pheu Thai Party camp, former deputy premier Chaturon Chaisang was presence along with red-shirt co-leader Veerakarn Musikapong.

Charge’ d’ Affaires W Patrick Murphy hosted the reception which was dubbed "The Traditional US State Fair".

Murphy said there’s only one category of people tonight, they are honoured friends. He said he wishes for the very best for Thailand, adding that Thailand is a work in progress and that the United States hope the work in Thailand will succeed.

A couple of the more cultured members of PTP.

Why shouldn't they attended a free piss up which will probably have the very best of food and drink on offer ?

No Thai and especially politicians would miss out on that.
