I know this has probably been done a 1000 times or more, but I'm curious as to what truck you would go for?

I'm getting rid of my CRV as I will need a truck to transport stuff to Khao Yai and back frequently in the coming months. I've owned an L200 triton, and just over a year ago I sold my Pajero which served me with no issues at all.

Putting residual value to one side, as we all know Toyota holds its price, but what truck would you go for based on its design and performance etc.

Personally, I like the look of the Nissan NP300 and despite its pedigree the Fortuna still looks dull, but a great vehicle it has to be said.

You are going to get 10 different answers from 10 different pickup owners, all biased. Why don't you do what I did, visit a few showrooms, compare standard features, prices, appearance etc and then make up your own mind. Despite what others might say, there's probably no such thing as a bad pickup, some might be slightly better than others, that's all.

Yep, you're going to get a lot of opinions... people will always cheer for the model they chose smile.png

It might help if you could provide more info on requirements though... you've already mentioned both a pickup (Navara) and an SUV (Fortuner)... which car type did you actually want? biggrin.png

If you actually want a pickup and not an SUV:

1. What body style would you want? single cab, extra cab, or double cab?

2. Which of these attributes are most important / least important to you?
a) Fuel Economy
b ) Styling
c) Price (low)
d) Comfort and noise
e) Safety
f) Features/gadgets - touchscreens, bluetooth, navigation, cruise control etc - any must-haves?

g) Offroad capability

h) Load carrying capabilty

3. What's the budget?

Yes ... topic was done recently ... started 9 May and finished a couple of weeks later.

Here we go again .... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

New or used. I had both in Isuzu and although OK I didn't find they lasted long...first blew up at 85,000 second was chucking out smoke by 70,000 kms...Ive driven many other peoples Toyotas and must say for their age seem to do well...comfort etc. As said, if possible to get test drives, try them all....my view though is Toyota although the recent new model I think is a backstep on design looks.

I think the stretch cab 4 cylinder turbo diesel is the one I'd go for. From there it's the best deal for a fully loaded vehicle. They're basically the same. Maybe Toyota for me.

Odd........ my 1st one sold with 465,xxx km on the clock never missed a beat, next one 400,000 km, the next just over 300,000 km, [did not like the gold series] at present have a Mazda with over 350,000 km, never any problems with any, the Mazda will have to be changed early next year to ?? no idea yet

Depend on driving position and comfort + as high km price of parts........ Like the NP300 Nissan, but the parts price list is sky high... genuine Toyota parts are not a lot cheaper, for cheapness = Isuzu, Mazda and Ford. when your doing high km = a service every other month price of part mount up.... just on simple things like filters Toyota is over double the price.

eg: customer ordered a new front bearing assembly with brake disc for the Nissan NP300 last week, 6,290 baht !! same thing on the Mazda 1,040 baht..

That's interesting because....

but what is the other brand they are talking about, or is it an average across brands or just BS ?

I like the nissan too, but I'm used to expensive parts (honda) lol

Well Ignis maybe on to something! If you can stand the look of it buy a Mazda PU, if not go for an Isuzu if your a long termer or hi miler. I like the look of the Nissan but I am not locked into any brand yet. Pretty sure it won't be a Ford or Toyota.

I like the look of the Ranger and would buy one, but the Mazda less cost for basically the same truck is what I would end up going for and just get used to the ugly look.

Mid life change = New front end and rear lights to the Mazda is just round the corner, so it will look something like the new 2 and 3 and CX5

Not a Ford: http://www.ford.co.th/trucks/ranger/cost-of-ownership/part-price-comparison

Probably a Toyota: http://www.toyota.co.th/customerservice/index.php?app=product&fnc=maintenance_lookup&series_group_id=15&km=30000&car_year=2012

So is there any significant difference over 100 k kms in parts prices? I wouldn't think that would be a deciding factor, for me at least.

Don't get too excited - the minor change looks like a 50% morph of the current BT-50 and the previous generation.

i.e. half way between this:

Maybe +/- 10%

Ooops, I was referring to the Toyota pickup.

As for use. I used to do plenty of off road in the Pajero 3.2GT I had but don't think I will use the new truck much for that. However, it will require 4x4 as it is a steep climb to my plot Khao Yai in bad weather. Reasons are transporting thing from BKK to KY (no massive loads) and possibly transporting a motor X bike around.

I had a good look around yesterday and I'm really liking the NP300 which I had the opportunity to look around at its launch during the press launch. The Toyota just doesn't do it for me and despite having owned 2 Mitsubishi vehicles which were flawless, I just fancy a change. Maybe the Mazda mentioned, if it receives a facelift might be an option.

Need the features
