Pizza in Rawai

Featured Replies

Felt like having a pizza yesterday, so went to my regular place (Sai Yiuan Road next to ABC Nursery, forgot the name). Place demolished, looks like some new shophouses will be there.

Don't really like their pizza's but closer to home, so went to Ellis. Gone, shophouse for rent.

Next place of visit was the pizzeria close to the German Bakery in Sai Yuan, also forgot that name. Also demolished.

Ended up at Portofino, and their pizza was good, but what the heck.

Not really surprising. There are so many restaurants in that part of Rawai and nowhere near enough residents and tourists to frequent them.

This year, businesses down the road to the pier are struggling, but, there are more customers there, on average, than in Rawai. They are just about holding their own.

I have never seen Rawai so quiet at this time of year. Still have August and September to get through and they are usually the quietest months.

Yes, we had lunch in Soi Suan last week. Usually go to Kallots, but closed for a few weeks. Cruised about until we found another place that was open. So many closed, and really no tourists about the places. Quiet ... very quiet.

Sign at Kallot's says closed 9-13, OP the Shakers "Pizza Patong" is o.k.

That's even further away for me, so not suitable for take away. Plus I like Portofino pizza.

Amalfi is the 3rd place I mentioned BTW, the name just came back to me.

Last time I had a Portofino pie, they threw what looked like a handful of oregano on it, that was all I tasted. Haven't been back.

Amalfi's is now shut? Pretty good pizza next to Nikita bar Piccolo 'Covo.

Not just shut, the place has been demolished.

Best pizza I've had in Rawai is from Da Vinci

Have tried them once, and that was the worst pizza I have had in my life. So DaVinci was not an option for me, so much so I even forgot about them.

Modena is o.k., sometimes the crust a little chewy but the chef/owner/operator pretty generous with the toppings.

Thanks, that's the name of the first one I mentioned that shut down and the shop has been demolished.

And I agree, I preferred Modena.

If it's been demolished, sounds like the lease was up. Wonder if he'll open elsewhere, or, take the opportunity to leave the business.

Sorry man I'm confused. Amalfi is demolished thats the one I thought you were referring to there. Old Modena demolished also, but he's open across from Samakee 1 on Sai Yuan.

Yeah, Modena just moved up the street about a km.
(Towards Vichit road traffic light)
Same side of the street as the old one too.
I like Modena and Piccolo.
But the best pizza I've had (closest to NY pizza) is Pizza 2000 over by Chalong pier.
Problem is, I don't feel like driving over there to get it.

Also Rosovivo is OK although more expensive than the others.

Everyone has their own preference when it comes to pizza though.

Pizza 2000?

When Agli Amico (Sp) is open, it eats Pizza 2000's lunch as they are only a few metres away from each other.

AA is full and P2000 is empty. The only business they get is when AA is closed.

But, you're right. Everyone has their own preference.

Best Pizza in Rawai by far is M&M at the intersection leading to Naiharn. But they're on holiday now as they do every year. They are full nearly every day when they are open.

The owners are also very nice and the staff super friendly. Best place.

Amalfi and Portofino have also not bad Pizza.

Modena Pizza sucks and the owner is always struggling to find staff as noone wants to work with him.

You guys are making me hungry

I usually go to Cosa Nostra. Anyone else been there lately?

Yes, but their pizzas are just average.

Like I said, Pizza 2000 is the closest to NY pizza (and the kind I prefer)

The Italian places hardly put anything on top of the dough.

Maybe one spoonful of sauce, maybe a little (very little) cheese, and if you get a topping, there are 4 or 5 pieces of that topping ONLY.

It's no wonder Americans are fat.

You get a pizza in NY and a slice or two fills you up.

Here at the Italian places, it takes a whole large pie or two!

Yeah, my opinion, I know.

Good pizza at Portafino but nasty service from Ladyboy waitress, I swear I will never go back to Portifino! When I want Pizza I go to Sabai Corner, thin crust in a real wood fire pizza oven and best view in Phuket.

But, Shot !!

Where in the name of Hades, did you get that multi-topping, heavenly creation that looks as if it's going to consume the small child next to it?

I just had to try Pizza 2000 since there are so split opinions on the place (and M&M are closed). I found the pizza there very good, and my son (6) were eating much more than he usually does.
