10 N. Korean soldiers breach border, return after warning shots

SEOUL: -- A group of 10 armed North Korean troops violated the inter-Korean border on Saturday apparently to inspect signposts around the area, and retreated after their Southern counterparts fired warning shots, the South Korean military said Sunday.

The North Korean soldiers crossed the Military Demarcation Line near Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., prompting the South to send calls for a withdrawal and then fire warning shots, an Army official said, adding that the North Koreans did not fire back, though they were armed.

The incident marked the South Korean military’s first discharge of warning shots against North Korean servicemen this year.

Last October, the two Koreas briefly traded fire after the North Korean soldiers approached the MDL in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. No casualties occurred that time.

How many decades of a nation divided by arrogance and ideology? What is a "border" but the fanciful contraption of human mind?

And don't forget that the, no doubt crazy, North Korea asked several times for a peace contract. As well they told to stop their nuclear program if the USA promise that they won't attack them without reason. Both was rejected by the west.

China is annoyed by North Korea but has to support them as they don't want USA close to the borders as they spy already close to the borders and have moved lots of military close to China + encircle Russia.

I am not, by no means saying NK is the good one and the West is the bad one, just everything is not as black and white as media try to tell us.

Next time you go through immigration at BKK airport, you can entertain the staff with your theories of 'border(s)'

To "encircle" Russia would be quite a hat trick for the U.S. or anyone else.

Get the Yanks out of Asia; China will stop supporting North Korea and back-off from Taiwan = a more peaceful place. South Korea would do the 60 years overdue mop-up job in North Korea and get their Northern neighbours into the 21st century.

If you don't think the US military presence in South Korea has prevented an attack, then you are a fool.

In case you forgot the North previously invaded the South. It was supported by both Russia and China. The Chinese also invaded.

There is a reason why successive South Korean governments want the US to remain.

If you don't think the US presence in Japan has kept the peace, then you are ignorant.

The Chinese would have invaded Taiwan long ago if not for the USA. Japan would have been embroiled in a nasty confrontation with China if not for the USA. The USA has spent billions helping keep the peace in the region.

What do you think would happen if the USA said, hey let's save a billion $ and reduce our footprint in the region.

They don't hassle us in the fast track lane at all[emoji48].

Dream on.

I think that the 'border' in fast track is to keep the great unwashed confined to the slow track. Now how this translates to the Korean border is..........................

Good ol' USA...Where would we be without them? Don't know how we got on before the USA was invented about 2 minutes ago in history. Thanks for saving the world Mr Obama....
