Please avoid posts which quote sources that are banned in Thailand.

This means sources that support Thaksin, or are critical of the coup or HM the King.

Under the Forum Rules all discussion of HM the King is banned, except for formal news reporting.

Please be very careful we do not want ThaiVisa banned in Thailand.

It looks like all bans on websites are no longer there.

Thailand is part of a bigger world again.

That is not quite true, the same bans are in place there were there before the old gov fell. I would suggest that if you really want to see a wide variety of commnents, that are not censored, then check out bbc!

As there are more than 5 people discussing politics on this thread, we are also in violation of the Junta's directive against such action and can all face arrest, 6 month imprisonment and/or 10,000Bt fine, as our actions here is also banned in Thailand under the Martial Law rulings. Just some food for thought, in a now Constitution-less country under military rule.

Don't worry Luk ....

It applies to people in Thailand ...... <not to mention it applies to being in the same place .... as I don't see you in my livingroom ....>

Sorry to burst your bubble, but BBC & CNN in Thailand are censored every time Thaksin is shown saying something.

And then I read reports of Thaksin being accused of stifling the media. L, O, <deleted>, L.

Again, I don't know what disappoints me more, the suspension of democracy or the realization that Thailand never had it in the first place.

I think Nokia's post (#38) is spot on. Apparently the main flaw with the thrown-out constitution was that it actually let the up-country poor decide who runs the country, or allegedly runs the country, rather.

Of course we know about the vote buying..... don't think this practise was invented by Thaksin though, or limited to TRT. In the West you win elections giving false promises. In Thailand Thaksin won landslide elections giving real money, while keeping real promises. A concept / start to healthcare for all, leveraging skills & crafts among rural people to a national and international market (OTOP), numerous initiatives in Technology and the economy. He also was an arrogant, selfish crook. A coup however hurts the country more than Thaksin ever managed. Look at previous governments.. utter fools like Chavalit and Banharn NOT being overthrown by coups.. Too harmless and ineffective to be of concern to the powers that be.

Possibly you do not have access to all the news at the moment.

General Sonthi's spokesman said after a meeting of media today" to stop carrying expressions of public opinion following the military takeover.... they would block "disinformation" deemed harmful to the provisional military council now in control of Thailand.... The official could not say how the ban on broadcasting opinions would extend to other forms of expression, such as newspaper editorials or Internet message boards." From Agence France-Presse

If they wanted to prove an anti-Junta conspiracy they don't have to do it in your living room, you don't even have to be in the same place or country, just interconnected. That's why most of the Thai language boards have closed down. This one is setup in Singapore so has some degree of safety from being shut down but not if you are posting something that could be taken as against the Junta, from within Thailand. Don't forget it's martial law and often you don't know the rules until they take you away for breaking them during martial law.
