Nakhon Nayok locals oppose the new industrial city plan

NAKHON NAYOK, 27 July 2015, (NNT) - Some of the people of Nakhon Nayok Province oppose a new industrial-oriented city plan, which could be implemented in 2017. They have signed a petition asking related agencies to reconsider the project.

The residents opposing the plan yesterday gathered at the province's Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park, lead by a group called the Network of Nakhon Nayok Citizens.

The new city plan would allow the establishment of industrial factories, such as petrol refineries and asbestos processing plants, in the province's green areas.

The group demanded that the provincial administration maintain the province's natural beauty and keep it free of industrial developments.

The petition listing the names of those who oppose the new city plan will be submitted to the Governor of Nakhon Nayok, the provincial Office of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, the Office of the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Personal Affairs Division of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

NRC to discuss public referendum plan on 13th August

BANGKOK, 27 July 2015 (NNT) – The National Reform Council is planning to discuss a plan to organize a public referendum on the draft charter, in the middle of August.

NRC whip secretary general Alongkorn Polabutr said that after the Constitution Drafting Committee resolved to extend the term of the reform council by 30 days, the council is expected to complete the national reform blueprint and the reform agenda report on August 10.

Concerning the session to cast votes on the draft charter, Mr. Alongkorn said that no date has been set yet, although he personally expects it to take place on September 5, 6 and 7.

He added that the NRC has set August 13 as the date on which the council will discuss the question of a public referendum before accepting the final draft charter on August 22.

The NRC whip secretary general went on to say that, while the CDC has been trying to adjust the draft of the new Constitution according to the suggestions of the NRC and the Cabinet, there remain some points that the reform councilors are concerned about and are still discussing among themselves, particularly the origins of a prime minister.
