Antique Laptop Has Dead Battery

Featured Replies

I have an old Gateway 9300 laptop that had a dead battery would I have a chance of finding a replacement battery anywhere around here? I really don’t want to get into the problems of importing and duty taxes.

Also I really need to re-install windows 98 would there be any problems? I am quite sure that the thing is stuffed with every virus out there thru use for a long time without any protection.

Any advice welcome.

I would never dream of transferring anything to my CLEAN desktop from the laptop.

My desktop uses a genuine Win XP home with sp2 with Mc Afee

Thanks Jim

The easy solution is to get one of the "universal" batteries that sits below the laptop and connects to the DC input of the laptop. Finding a replacement battery is often a challenge.

I haven't verified this but apparently the Amorn shop on the ground floor of Panthip Plaza can "repair" laptop batteries to almost as good as new. Costs something like 2,000 baht.

Not sure how they do it, but you might want to check it out if you cant find a new replacement.

It's called 'recelling', the battery pack is cut open, the old cells removed, new cells soldered in, and the pack resealed.

The "recelling" can be done in many places...

Not too expensive, especially for older models as they aren't using the latest high tech battery technology.
