I'm looking to invite my girlfriend to stay with me for a few weeks. I live in my parent's house and it has a spare bedroom for her. I also have wealthy friends who also know my girlfriend and offered to help me out with expenses if needed and can provide bank statements etc.

Would it be a good idea to have my parents write a letter saying they are happy to have her stay in their home and provide proof of spare bedroom, have my friends write a letter saying they are happy to help out and host her if needed and I could write a letter too. The main problem is that I'm self employed and my earnings are all over the place.

Thanks!

Good evening.

We were in a similar position to yourself many years ago.

Firstly a would write a letter yourself explaining your situation within you application; I would also include a letter from your parents inviting her to stay as a guest in their house.

As she is only over on a visit visa I don't think your self employed salary will be a big issue providing you can prove you can support her for the duration of her stay. Personally if it was me a would not include your friends offer of an additional letter.

If you prepare your application well and present it in a professional way I'm sure you will be fine.

All the best

Your girlfriend is coming to visit you, so you are her sponsor.

Whoever is offering accommodation should write a brief letter inviting her and describing the property and who else lives there to show that there is room for her. If they own then proof of this, such as a mortgage statement, or if they rent a letter of permission from their landlord can help;, but is not essential for a visit.

Finance can come from the applicant, the sponsor, third party(ies) or any combination of these. Whoever is contributing to the finances should provide evidence of their ability to do so, 6 months bank statements are best, and if a third party say why they are doing so.

You may find UK visit visa basics helpful; although some of the links need updating.

We recently got my partners visa approved with me as his sponsor - he is currently unemployed and I just earn regular teaching-in-Thailand salary, plus we have a (very) small amount in savings. I thought if there was any reason the visa would be denied it would be our finances. But they deemed it enough for us to go to the UK for a couple of weeks... I would say work hard on your sponsor letter and make sure everything else is perfect, reason to return etc, and just include letter of invitation from family.
