Is this a laptop or desk computer (cheap keyboard should solve desktop). If laptop will probably have to have professional service.

You might think that this is crazy but:

Take a picture of the keyboard. Pop the keys out and put them in a couple of socks. Throw them in the washer the next time you do laundry. Get a can of contact cleaner and clean the keyboard good while the keys are out. Follow the picture and pop the keys back in. I've done it twice with my Acer laptop and also a couple of desktop keyboards.

You might be best to take directly to the makers guarantee service - my only experience using was positive with a quick repair done at Acer in Fortune Town a few years ago.

I have the opposite problem. Each morning my ' key does not work 1st time it is pressed. There seems to be a crossed wire with @ key. I cannot use the latter as it prints '

It reverts to @ after I've pressed ' twice. Is my keyboard haunted? (I've had this problem on the last keyboards so it must be my Windows package.

No idea, but think it is Language settings... get the same thing and have done for years different PC's and OS and keyboards.

try clicking on the " and see if you get @ ...... US English and UK English there in different places ...... I also have Thai and German installed..

Keyboards here are Thai/USA, so setting to UK English some keys are in different places......... used Google years ago Picture USA Keyboard, and then UK Keyboard clear to see the difference..... if you want the @ to be above the 2 as on a Thai bought keyboard then use English [united States]

Edit: of course if your English and use the £ which is above the 3, it is not on the Thai/US keyboard, so you will need the UK keyboard setting
