Appendectomy

Featured Replies

A local friend had send his daughter for an Appendectomy at the Rajavej Hospital at Chiangmai, it costs 50,000 baht for a two night stay...he asks is it expensive or not...any info...thanks

My son had his appendix out at Suandokh; at the time he was a student at CMU so they footed the bill on uni insurance. We did have to clear it though at the end and paid something like 20 Bt photocopy fee or something.

I don't remember exactly but the total was around 20k Baht. He stayed 2 nights. That was about 3 years ago.

First night he was in a ward as they were full and second night in a shared room.

Sounds quite reasonable. I had one about 6 years ago and the cost was 38000 Baht, I'm pretty sure I've seen recent threads on here with figures over 100k being quoted for some of the worst rip-off places.

Rajavej has dual pricing. Not sure if we're allowed to say that, they were, may still be, sponsors. Knock them down.

Last year my friend visiting Thailand needed an Emergency Appendectomy, 20,000 baht all in for emergency appendectomy, 5 days in hospital at the Government Hospital in Natorn.

Private hospital 120,000 +, +.for extra days and drugs.

30,000B for mine at Ruam Path including private room 10 yrs back, the then girlfriend was staying also ..

Assuming it is the same hospital as there are a few in the country that have the same name, Ruam Path (near C.M. Gate) is the worst hospital I have ever seen/been in - in my entire life; in any country of the world.

I had emergency appendectomy because mine popped and I needed emergency surgery at Bumrungrad.

Total cost was 140,000 baht + 3 days in hospital.

I remember waking up post-surgery, with a nurse called Rose in the room. I asked her if we were in a video game. She said no. I said was she sure. She said yes. Funny things you remember.

So, 50,000 seems reasonable.

150'000 baht in Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for Ruptured Appendix, 4 night stay. (Insurance paid)

For a Thai child, free in any government hospital.

But beware, false diagnosis of appendix is rife in CM.

They tried it on with my kid in San Sai (just over a month ago), I said no and took him to Nakornping .......

Viral infection, two nights on a drip and all cured.

No charge.

Absolute criminal charlatinism, negligence or assault charges should be lodged against the attending physicians.
