Samsung Galaxy Note 5

Wouldn't touch a Samsung phone with a barge-pole. Horrible updates.

That's not my experience at all, my S6 edge gets very timely updates so far (5.1.1 r2 now). But don't expect a lot of updates from any manufacturer for their low-end devices.

This. A lot of people don't take this into account when buying a phone from a cheaper OEM, at least with Samsung and Apple you are covered, part of the premium one pays I guess.

Guys guys you are going complete off topic here. Leave it at that. I haven't bought a second hand phone ver in my life. It wasn't issue of money it was that you never know what you are getting. It is not only Thailand that sells fake phones. But if you want to buy second hand phone god knows in what place be prepared!!! Do your research, apart from visual cues that most parts are so bad that only blind won't tell difference apart or things on top like tv antennas. There are tools online that can help you identify that the phone is legit. So use them. If someone bought a fake phone without putting any effort in researching then its entirely that persons fault no one else's.

Lets get back to actual note 5 discussion. Played with it all day almost absolutely love it. Had 50% battery when I took it out of the box. Now 20% left after playing all day. Plugged it into fast charger and it took 1 hour and 2 mins to charge to full. No i don't think non removable battery will be an issue

I am not sure if anyone is really discussing second-hand phones. Grey-market phones are neither fakes or second-hand. Re non-removable battery on the Note 5 I wouldn't expect there to be much in the way of problems showing up on a brand new phone.

After having it for almost a week, Im impressed. HOWEVER those of you who own a note 5 (BKKboet) how is your battery life? Now here is an issue, it is definitely better than it was on other phones I owned. But, I see people on android central manage 17 h off battery with 6-7 or MORE HOURS OF SCREEN ON TIME. I managed a max of 3-4 hours SOT. Usually less than 4, I disabled 4G and only use HSDPA (as connection to 4G is not good here) that made an improvement, but still nowhere near those stats. If I actively use phone I loose 1% every 2 mins which is quite a fast drain.

For now I have took off my phone from charger yesterday around 1 pm, and I still have 45% left, but I only used it for about 2 hours SOT

Maybe I'm missing something but isn't the only advantage of a Note 5 over an S 5 a minuscule larger screen and the ability to write script with a stylus? Adjusting the S 5's sensitivity and using an easily made or purchased stylus does the same thing and the S-5 has a removable battery for changing if quick charge is necessary and is waterproof (Song Kran).

The comparison for a Note 5 would be the S6 rather than the S5. The S5 comparison would be the Note 4, so if you want S5 specs why not just stick with a Note 4?

stopping the sale of black-market goods in a popular shopping mall is not the function of a nanny state.

I am not sure about the references to black-market goods. There are copies, which are clearly fakes (and this has been a problem for both Samsung and Apple). And then there are grey market products which are the real thing but sold in a different market to which they the manufacturer wanted to sell them in. If i was looking for a grey market Note 5 I would want to see a price around 25000 baht, but wouldn't expect to see much right now in Thailand. I will find out how much the Note 5 is going for in HK.

Note 5 obtainable in HK for HKD 5300 = <25,000 THB

Because I think the S-5 is superior to the S-6 and Note 5. I think Samsung really made a mistake with the S-6

Dave if you have official Samsung Stores thats where to look for one. They told me that 64GB models will be going there as a priority. There doesnt seems to be any issue with stock, every Samsung store I have been to seems to have them already.

Battery seems good I have managed 1 days 3 hours so far with 4 hours Screen on Time and I still have 38% battery left.

Just saw a leaked video with Sony France executive showing off upcoming range of Xperia z5. Compact regular and premium. Man premium comes with 4k screen first on mobile. That is over 800 pixels per inch. Probably will cost over 30k easily. Maybe I should have waited a bit

You may face major warranty issues with grey market phones. Usually not worth the savings. The grey market shops offer very little after market service. Buyer beware.

That is the risk we are prepared to take and in my case buy a grey market Note 3 in Hong Kong which obviously doesn't have a warranty coverage when in Thailand. Whether you are happy taking that risk is up to you/me but the open sale of grey market products is extensive in HK and many Hong Kongers seem comfortable with it.

My experience has been that the grey market offer fairly small discounts over retail pricing. So, one simply trades that small percent for a lack of warranty internationally. Not worth it by my account. Plus no service from the retailer usually. I will never repeat the experience.

Back a few years ago the price difference used to be much larger

I can remember buying the galaxy s2 and Samsung galaxy nexus, s3 and s4 at much below retail

Some of them I got for 12-13k when the Thai retail price at that time was around 20k

Now the current models are only a couple of thousand cheaper it doesn't make as much sense as it did back then

If the grey model was 8k cheaper I would probably still take it and hopefully it doesn't break in the first 12 months :)

The discount offered by the Samsung phone grey market in HK can be quite substantial. And other stuff: years ago bought a grey market Canon Ixus camera (Japanese Ixy) and had no trouble.

So whats new with those using Note 5?

I have noticed annoying lag occasionally but I think its an android issue. I would not be able to wake screen up properly for up to 10 seconds then things would be appearing one by one as if the phone is lagging.

That doesn't sound normal at all. Did you try a factory reset? If that doesn't work I suggest you take it back to Samsung.

Got tired of waiting for Marshmallow 6.0. So Today I installed it myself. They have released it officially 6.0.1 in Cambodia for exactly the same model SM-N920C

http://www.teamandroid.com/2016/02/20/how-to-install-galaxy-note-5-n920c-xxu2bpb6-android-6-0-1-marshmallow-official-firmware/If anyone is interested let me know. No rooting needed just install using ODIN and download mode, exactly how they do in service center. Took me 3 minutes today
