I would greatly appreaviate some advice...

Is it possible to take my current electric bill into 7-11 and instead of pay the few hundred baht on the bill....could I pay a thousand or two for example and thereby put my bill into credit...

In other words pre pay a larger amount...

Thanks for any help....

They probably wouldnot let you do it . I went back to Canada once and tried similar. Went to electric office paid money in advance, plus a 125 baht fee. When I came back the meter was gone had to wait 3 days for new meter.

If you are going to be away it's as easy to get someone to pay your bills for you to avoid disconnection,if that's possible or as above set up a direct debit.

I am doing this at MEA (Bangkok) once every 6 months. Pay in advance THB5000 which would cover my power bill for the next six months. (I doubt you can pay in advance at 7-11s.)

Maybe possible, but I wouldn't recommend it. My wife tried this once with True Visions, paying a month ahead while we were abroad. For the next 12 months or so, she had countless phone calls and visits to the office, wielding her receipt of payment, to try to get them to stop billing her for the month that was paid in advance. It was finally sorted, but I still suspect that the clerk pocketed the extra cash payment.

can you set up auto pay on a PEA account that is not in your name?

I think so as I just did it, (though I have to wait for them to deduct the first month). I set it up the previous month the account is not in my name but the bank account is. They had no problems with it and I got an new kind of electricity bill showing that I have set it up against my bank account. So I guess it is possible, just waiting for the first time they take it off then I can tell you its 100% sure.

But all indications are that it is possible.

If it turns out you can't do that, you can link a bank account to pay your bills automatically and then just leave enough in that account to cover as many months as you might want to.

Way to go,our neighbours didnt and came home to a darkened house.Took 2 days to get the power back on.

Maybe Chang Mai is different but in Pattaya I have direct debit from my SCB account to pay two electric bills and one water bill. Easy to set up. Get the forms from your bank, take them to the utility to fill out, return them to your bank and it is done

All I have to worry about is that I have enough money in the account to cover the debits every month

The only utility I pay in advance is TOT for the phone and that is approximately 1,200 THB per year since the phone line is only used for Internet access so the monthly fee is always the same

When you apply for direct debit from your bank account the name on the electricity bill doesn't seem to matter.

I got my first small bill left in the PEA box today after setting up auto pay and it seems to be identical to previousnon auto pay bills except that the bar codes have not been printed.

Exactly, because you are not going to pay it using the bill there is no need for bar codes. The bill in your box is just to show you how much is going to be deducted from your account and when that will happen
