Hi, recently applied for an irish tourist visa for girlfriend. All documents were submitted at the irish consulate in Bangkok on 4th August. Consulate staff said that they would be sent to Kuala Lumpur that day. Couple of questions for anyone that has recently applied for an Irish tourist visa.

1. Can decision be made in Kuala Lumpur or will they simply forward the application to INIS in Dublin ?

2. From applying in Bangkok what is the likely timeframe for a decision to be made.

3. How is the decision communicated ?

Decisions are made in KL. unless they can't and its forwarded to Dublin. Generally they do.

The time frame I think is about 6 to 8 weeks. I've applied many times in Phuket and this is as per their website. Sometimes it's quicker depending when you are traveling.

Decision will be communicated straight from the embassy. Normally by phone. They'll give you a call and ask you to come back in.

I've only ever had good experiences on this. They can be a bit slow but if your paperwork is in order u should be fine.

Hi, Just to update, girlfriend got call from consulate in bangkok this morning to say that visa was approved and will be available to collect tommorrow

Pretty much exactly 4 weeks since she submitted application so relatively quick.

Process appears quite daunting but like Ciaran said once all paperwork ( mountains of it ) is in order everything was ok.

Hopefully thread stays open for anyone looking advice in the future.
