Electricity prices

Featured Replies

Would anyone know Is there a price difference between electricity for a private residence (condo) in a individual name versus a residence in a company name?

In theory it should cost more for a company-owned unit but it doesn't always seem to be applied.

We pay almost double per unit than they do in some First World Countries.

Standard rate in the UK is about 14p per unit (around 7.8 Baht), standard PEA rate is about 4.1 Baht smile.png

It depends on the size and age of the condo. I lived in a large (96 units) condo. complex in CM that was about 15 years old and the electricity company regarded the entire building as a single entity and the rate was the same as for a small factory. The electric company looked at the total number of units used by the building as a whole and charged a rate accordingly, mine was 9.6 baht per unit. This was because when the building was first constructed there was only a single line into it and a single electricity meter, individual metering was done by the condo. buildings own metering equipment.

For a person billed directly by the electric company (that is, the electric account in their name vs the landlord), the total charge per KWH right now including the basic charge per KWH, Fuel Tariff, 7% VAT, and Meter/Service Fee, is approx Bt4.65/KWH. An example is 1000KWH would cost approx Bt4,650. 500KWH approx Bt2,325.

But if you get your electric bill from your landlord, he can pretty much charge you what he wants.....and some seem to make a nice profit....been plenty of posts where landlords charge 7 or 8 baht/KWH...or even a higher amount.
