Help from someone who can speak Thai

This is a strange request but here goes. I have a son with a Thai man, I am in the UK, him in Thailand. We are not together but have kept in touch. Earlier on I received a phonecall from someone in London giving me a message from bangkok to say he was in hospital in the public hospital in udon thani and very seriously ill. She gave me his cousins number to call. After attempting to phone the cousin I've discovered there is a digit missing from the mobile. I've tried to call the woman in London back but as it was after 6 there was only a voice recording. I'll admit that I'm not 100% sure if this is some kind of con or not but I would ask if there is anyone with good enough thai who can Pm me and I'll give you his name and if you could possibly phone and ask the hospital. Thanks

Try 42-325-999. Confirm the international dialling procedure before you start, if you don't already know it. I am not an Udon Thani resident; I got the number from a website.

Thanks, I've tried that number and they say they don't have anyone with his name. Does anyone know if there are any other public hospitals in udon thani?

Here's a list of hospitals in Udon Thani. http://www.udonthanihospitals.udonmap.com/

Don't you know anybody ( a relative of your husband) who could find out what's really going on?

I'm a member of an institution called DHV, usually helping German people in emergency situations and I think we have somebody in Udon as well.

Please make sure that the story's really true, it could also be a little different and your ex only wants some money.

Who told you that he'd be in the local ( and there's usually only one big government hospital in each province) hospital?

Please try to find a local who knows him. Best of luck, should you need help, I could ask my DHV colleague in Udon to check, but I need the name of the hospital.

My Thai is good enough to find out where he is and what's wrong with him, but I do not really like to call all hospitals.

Don't you know one of his friends,, or a relative?

Cheers and good luck.

P.S. Just found another very useful link. http://www.udonexpatsclub.com/pdf/telephone.pdf

The Thai Red Cross might be a good place to start with.

Thank you for the information. I managed to get a friend in Thailand to call the hospital. He is at the hospital but they could not give her any information as they said his wife is taking care of him!

This is news to me but I guess being thailand not really surprising. I'm wondering now if she was trying to get money from me and maybe she was the person I was to phone.

Anyway, I would still like to know what is wrong with him but not sure how I can find out, any ideas?

In case you don't know if your son is Thai and in a government hospital his medical costs will be covered by the hospital, including drug costs. However there are always other costs, such as people who stay with him, will have expenses. At government hospitals in Thailand people always stay with the patient, maybe not 24/7, but close to it. Also a private room is an extra charge, but not ICU.

Thanks, I wasn't really sure about this. Tbh I thought maybe I was being contacted for money but doesn't appear to be the case.

I maybe didn't make it clear in my initial post but it's my ex husband who's in hospital, my son lives with me in the UK.

Still not finding it easy to get much information, and don't know who contacted me initially. All very frustrating!

With an apology of sorts, for what looks to be erronneus information in my post above, though it is not my fault. Upon further research, it appears that the phone number I gave you is for Aek Hospital, a private hospital masquerading as a public one. Possibly they are trying to lure unsuspecting foreign customers.

Anyway, I have now found another phone number for the Udon Thani Hospital, which seems to be the official name of the public hospital. Try +66-042-248-586.

I have sent you a Private Mail with some supplemental information.

I would just like to say a big thank you to Allane who helped me out in a very difficult situation. Unfortunately, it did not end well but Allane has shown there are selfless and kind people in the world and even on Thaivisa
