Hi. My wife and I are in Madrid. I am looking for work. My wife has a 90 day Schengen visa. When I get a job, we plan to apply for the EU family card. One requirement seems to be getting the marriage certificate legalized. Does anyone know how exactly to do that? Are there any lawyers that can do it in Thailand, and if so, how much would it cost? Would it be possible to skip the marriage certificate and use our children as proof of a relationship? Our marriage certificate has been laminated, translated into English, and the translation stamped by the MFA. The certificate is over here with us in Spain. My wife has family in Bangkok if any errands need to be done.

I look forward to hearing some encouraging replies.

Was the marriage certificate not translated and stamped by the Min of Foreign Affairs for the Schengen visa?

The marriage certificate is the legalised document proving marriage! The certified translation is for the convenience of the Spanish authorities.

The sole purpose (IMO) for a marriage certificate is to prove that a couple are married!!

I suspect the Spanish authorities are just trying to complicate matters!

Thanks for the replies. I got an email back from the Spanish Embassy, Bangkok. It looks less daunting than I thought it would be.
