RFK Jr.: HHS Moves to Restore Public Trust in Vaccines
Jetelina & Faust on RFK Jr.'s sudden removal of all seventeen voting members of the CDC's vaccine advisory committee. Jun 10, 2025 "Yesterday, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that all seventeen voting members of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices have been fired from their jobs. As I wrote yesterday, this was an audacious move and one that will continue to undermine vaccine confidence, despite RFK Jr.’s cosplaying to the contrary. Now, given some build-up over the last few weeks and months, this move was not entirely surprising. And yet, it was still pretty shocking when it actually happened. I never really thought he’d up and vacate these highly respected experts, upon whom the American public relies for a transparent process that leads to our national vaccine policies. ... Visibility ≠ Transparency RFK Jr. is making policy from the set of Fox News and the pages of The Wall Street Journal. But what he’s offering is visibility, not transparency. ACIP’s normal process is public, data-driven, and participatory. This move was draconian and opaque. Transparency demands public agendas, working groups, open votes. None of that is happening here. Conflicts of Interest? No. Expertise. RFK Jr. is conflating expertise with corruption. His justification for this move was “conflict of interest”—but ACIP’s conflict policies are stringent and public. What he really objects to is that members know what they’re talking about. As we said live: that’s not a bug, that’s the point." Pictures courtesy of สวพ.FM91 A harrowing explosion unfolded yesterday in Chon Buri as a lorry laden with gas cylinders overturned, unleashing fireballs nearly 10 metres high into the sky. The incident occurred around 3pm on June 9, along Route 344 near Ban Bueng district's Nong Chak intersection. The vehicle, a pickup truck packed with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders, lost control, tipped over, and instantly ignited a massive blaze. Responding swiftly, four fire engines from the Nong Chak Subdistrict Municipality and Nong Irun Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, alongside police rescue teams and local volunteers, converged on the scene. As the fire escalated, multiple gas cylinders exploded, compelling firefighters to exercise extreme caution amid the perilous conditions. Eyewitnesses described the inferno as towering over nearby buildings, with reverberating explosions adding to the chaos. Police halted traffic and cautioned drivers to decelerate, mitigating potential risks as crews worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames. It took approximately an hour to wrestle the fire under control. Reduced to a scorched metal husk, the lorry was completely consumed by the fire. The driver, a 40-year-old named Ek, sustained injuries and reported widespread pain. Reflecting on the incident from the roadside, he recounted the terrifying sequence of events. "I was transporting cooking gas from Map Khlong to deliver to a customer on the Nong Chak–Phanat Nikhom road. I lost control of the vehicle, it overturned, and then exploded," Ek explained. "I managed to get out just in time and ran to the side of the road." In the aftermath, firefighters and police identified at least 20 LPG cylinders, each weighing 40 kilogrammes, amidst the wreckage, with four having exploded. Additionally, 23 oxygen tanks were recovered, adding to the incident's volatility. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the accident's cause and scrutinise the safety measures associated with transporting flammable materials. Although no fatalities were reported, the explosion sparked significant panic and traffic disruption in the area. This incident highlights the critical need for rigorous safety protocols when handling and transporting hazardous materials, underscoring the potential risks vehicles pose on busy roads if these guidelines are not strictly adhered to.
