My wife will be applying for uk citizenship at the end of this month the problem we are having is the referee/reference she has one person that can do it but she is having problems with the one where it says the person has be a from a recognised professional body. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to do this part.

Thank you for any help

Doctors are reluctant to complete these but some can be persuaded for a fee. As a vet I have done one, nurses/veterinary nurses.

The list is similar to passports but other professionals can fill in the forms. Clergy or equivalents, business owners (perhaps your or her boss?). Bank manager (but who trusts them?neus.gif )

Really anyone in a responsible position can qualify as a referee as long as they have known your wife for the relevant period.

This is the Home Office Referees: List of acceptable professional persons,

Note that doctors are not on the list. This is because they wont do it, not because the Home Office finds them unacceptable. Although, as Bob says, some will do so for a fee.

As you can see, the list is quite broad. For example:-

Has she learned to drive? A driving instructor can do it.

Do you have children at school? Did she attend English classes herself? A teacher can act as a referee.

Do you know anyone who is a civil servant or local government officer?

Even the landlord of your local can do it.

Again, as Bob says, any professional or responsible person can act as a referee, even if they are not actually on the list (Vets aren't!).

The list of acceptable of professional persons isn't exhaustive and can extend to an upstanding member of the community [a holder of a British passport].

As long as they're known to each other for the required three year timeframe and meet the criteria of upstanding member of the community then you'll experience little problem. My wife used her professional referee for both citizenship and British passport applications.
