Hi guys.....hope someone could enlighten me about this....

Now that I'm married (in the UK) to my Thai wife and we have a kid together, does this change my visa status when I visit Thailand?

or do I still only get the 1 month tourist visa?

cheers

You will only get a visa exemption upon entering the kingdom 30 days

You can of course apply for a non o visa in the UK before departing for the kingdom and apply for an extension of stay as well once here.

As long as you fit the correct criteria.

There are no one month tourist "visas"

If you arrive without a visa you will receive a 30 day "visa exempt " entry which can be extended for a further thirty days at a immigration office for a fee of 1900 Bht.

If you are just intending to stay for a short holiday that should meet your needs.

There are other options.

If you mean a 30 day visa exempt entry, now that you're married you could extend that stay by 60 days.

Also now married you can get a single or multi entry Non-Immigrant visa on the basis of being married to a Thai. Single entry gives you 90 days which could be extended by 60 days or 1 year once in Thailand. Or a multi entry that lets you come and go as often as you like for 1 year. You can stay 90 days for each entry. This can also be extended.

It would be best to at least get a single entry non-o visa. You can apply by mail to the embassy in London to get one.

If you want to apply for a one year extension you would need a non-o visa entry tor apply for it.

Given that you are Married to a Thai, you qualify for a non immigrant "O" visa, single or multi entry, 90 days each entry but up to 12 Months in total. Have a look at the Thai Consul UK Website for more detail.

firefly69, for my trips, I choose the type of visa or visa-exempt entry based on how long I to plan to stay in Thailand.

1-30 days: visa-exempt

31-60 days: single-entry tourist visa

61-90 days: single-entry non-O visa

Thanks Maestro...where do I apply for those visa's...is it the thai embassy London?

The tourist visa or the non-O visa can be obtained from the Embassy.

The "visa exempt" entry is not a visa and is obtained at the airport in Thailand from an Immigration Officer.
