DSI handled 108 special cases worth Bt60 billion as of August 31
THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has handled 108 special cases with combined damages worth Bt60 billion as of August 31. Ten of those cases were passed onto the public prosecutors while the other 98 cases were still under investigation.

DSI chief Suwana Suwanjuta, who will soon be promoted to the Justice Ministry's permanent secretary, said she didn't know the identity of her successor but affirmed the agency would continue to work on special cases such as human trafficking crimes and the Klongchan Credit Union Co-operative embezzlement case.

She said the human trafficking were particularly important as they would help to move Thailand from Tier 3 of the US Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report.

Since 2004, she said, the agency investigated 1,925 special cases, 1,297 of which were passed onto the public prosecutors, 120 passed onto the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission and the remaining two passed onto the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

If Human Trafficking was such a priority what where the DSI doing about it that allowed the Tier 3 rating in the first place?

I would say such a low case load tells us the DSI is ineffective or that there aren't that many cases that need investigating in the first place. My bet is on the former.

probably following tarits/ptp orders and only chasing the dems and leaving all their own mates to be as corrupt as they wanted to be. The majority of work has been done only since they removed the ptp/tarit and actually started chasing all the corrupt people
