Bangkok Airways launches campaign to grow coconut trees to promote tourism

BANGKOK, 13 October 2015 (NNT) - Bangkok Airways has unveiled a new campaign that focuses on local produce to help promote tourism.

According to President of Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, Koh Samui continues to be an important tourist location of Thailand and one on the top of the list of preferred destinations among foreign visitors.

In addition to natural beauty of clear water and clean sand, coconut trees are something that has been with Koh Samui for a very long time ascoconut has long been a key export item of the island, he said.

But because of pest problems and the construction of more resorts, the population of coconut trees has lately fallen drastically.

Mr. Puttipong said that, accordingly, Bangkok Airways is launching a coconut-tree-growing campaign under the theme “Love Earth Save Earth : Love Samui Save Coconut Tree”.

Under the campaign, the airline has distributed two main species of coconut, including fragrant coconut and brown coconut which is used to make coconut milk and coconut cream.

More than 2,000 coconut shoots have been given out to enable locals to grow and help promote tourism while making extra earnings as coconuts can be turned into several OTOP items.

The red beetle pest problems on Coconut trees, has more or less been solved... over the last few years ... with the use of pheromone traps dotted around Samui and Koh Phangan ...

I would agree some resorts probably prefer to use other types of trees, so their customers don't get bonked on the head by falling coconuts! !wink.png

But I know many Thai's who plant coconut trees in their gardens or plots of land ... seems like an odd choice for BKK airways to make~! ? whistling.gif

Is this really going to attract tourists? Putting two thousand sprouting coconuts on an island already covered with them?

(And it might be a good idea to get their slogan put into English, too!)

To promote tourism Bangkok Airways should first lower their ridiculous high pricing policy, strongly reduce the ever present delays and teach their stuck-up staff to occasionally climb down from their pedestal. Not to have to wait all dressed up for flights in 32 degree heat would also be nice.

2000 coconut shoots, WOW, if you buy these in Samui, it would cost about the same price as a return flight to BKK............... hey big spender cheesy.gif
