About once a week I went to Bake Chalong to collect a Pain de Campagne, very good bread and not too expensive. Unfortunately they have closed since a few days, not to re-open. Looks like I'll have to try Sacs again, hope that after the third owner change in a few years they are improving now, the last 2 changes have only resulted in worsening quality.

I avoided that place like the plague. Yes, nice stuff but talk about overpriced.

Where is this other place?

Sac's Bakery - located on Chao Fa west immediately after House & Home. Have a booth at Homepro outside Villa Market.

SACS main shop is on Chao Fa West, past Kajonkiet and the homeworks (name?) shop after that, on the left. They have a small outlet in the HomePro Village in Chalong.

Another Bake used to be on the bypass just after Index on the opposite corner, same side. But that might be closed now. Another 4 Bakes further North.

Hellish expensive, part of one of the Laguna Hotels - Twin Palms ?

Locations ---> http://bakebakery.com/google_map.html

There is a new place there called The Avenue, Nice food & looks like a good place to have a drink with friends. Boutique beers, I think, on tap.

Can confirm, correct.

This BAKE is about 400 meters before the entrance to Laguna Resorts that is in the middle of Bang-Tao which is Cherng-Talay city proper. It is not affiliated with any hotel in Laguna.

Twin Palms is at Surin Beach, about 5 kilometers south. They might run the FLAME BBQ chicken place next door, also priced at New York City rates.

While the quality and taste is good I was dismayed to find out from the GM the " whole wheat" is only about 20 % real whole grain flour and at 160 baht, ridiculously priced for white-crap flour.

I agree the Villa Markets have sourced just about the worst bread ever with the Bite brand. ( Bite? Worst branding ever.. ) It's as sweet as cake and I bet would stay " fresh" and not mould for about 1000 years. The Gastro brand varieties are OK and very reasonably priced and of course, always sold out.

Catch, Flame, Bake and Palm Seafood or all owned by the Twin Palms group

New York prices? Really?

230thb for a half chicken, or 220thb for a Pizza in Flame...not exactly breaking the bank. Well not mine anyhow.

There is a new place there called The Avenue, Nice food & looks like a good place to have a drink with friends. Boutique beers, I think, on tap.

Boat Avenue? That's the new shopping plaza next to Villa Market and the Zcape condos, many, many restaurants and niche places there. Very farangified. I like the Kiwi Fish and Chips place in the container section.

btw, Be careful parking in the middle section near the containers. The Boat Lagoon folks seem to think it's OK, and no one in Cherng Telay building inspector stopped them- to run the electrical wiring along the curb,so there's an electrocution waiting to happen, especially on the Friday evening market-place when the vendors are usually squatting right up next to it.

This is also the place that really squeaked in the parking, so for the first year, there were log jams of people trying to get out, real mess until they removed half the parking and made it all parallel. Interesting how the shoppe owners always take up the one space in from of their store, so there's usually no parking but there's a new lot next to Villa Market.

Also a back way to that lot from the Laguna entrance road, ( near BAKE) so much better traffic flow.

Then I was wrong, sorry. But there is no Twin Palms in Laguna.

Yes, correct, But you might notice a put a question mark when I wrote Laguna - Twin Palms. But for me that entire area (including Surin) is the the Laguna catchment area.

Back to BAKE. I must admit I did enjoy their fettuccini and cream sauce at the place near Index. Pricy at 190 baht, but the glass of red wine at 240 baht took my breath away. Always wanted to try the Bake at Wat Chalong - guess way too late now.

Need to have a look at this Avenue place.

Just to clarify The Avenue is just across from Index Living Mall located where Flame (a different version of Bake) used to be. I just read on FB they will be closed until 19th Oct.

I think there is some confusion between "The Avenue" near Index and "Boat Avenue" which is at the entrance to Laguna.

Lucky that there are still plenty of 'Sunday Roast' eateries all over the island, so no need to leave on that criteria.

How long is a piece of string ... places I know/use for more than 15 years are still going strong. Others spring up and die quickly if no good. Law of supply and demand. Sunday Roast will still be available in many Phuket locations long after I am dead.

Back to the topic - what has Sunday Roast got to do the The Bake - nothing ....

"Back to the topic - what has Sunday Roast got to do the The Bake" - you answered your own question.

"places I know/use for more than 15 years are still going strong. Others spring up and die quickly" - I expect to see larger, longer established places, continue to trade, at the expense of smaller, new establishments, thus, a decrease in choice, and therefore, quality, here.

Bake closed, causing less choice.

Definately on topic.

This is mentioned in the OP.

I know it never offered Sunday Roast - it was an analogy.

Bread today - Sunday roast tomorrow.

Get it?

Weak, very weak NKM - just quit while you are loosing.

We'll see LIK. Time will tell.

I would not be surprised to see some of your long established 15 year old businesses wind up here in the future, in the wake of numerous small businesses folding.

Phuket is simply not attracting new small business foreign investment, not to mention, the massive decline in the western tourist market.
