JE for 5 days climbing next to Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Hello

I got my shot 4 days ago for JE in Bangkok but it will be effective only in 10 more days I've been told

I'm going to climb for 5 days next to Chiang Mai (but probably not camping and coming back to the city every night)

I'd like to know if any advice if I should or not consider that.

It's definitely not mandatory for me to go there, but that's the plan so far

I know the peak season is over (until October) but it's still an endemic area and I'll be outdoor climbing during the days

Any advice ?

Thanks a lot

Cheers

Alex

I don't know, 10-20$ but that's not really the topic ...

Not sure where exactly you are going to climb but JE is endemic in areas where pigs are raised as pugs are the resevoir. Wouldn't think that would coincide with areas for climbing.

The city is fine (in terms of JE)

I think the risk of JE is extremely small with your itinerary....the risk of dengue is much higher.

For both, mosquito repellent is a good idea. They are both spread by day time biting mozzies.

There is a product called "Off" it smells, it burns in the eyes, it taste terrible (yes it shouldn't come in the eyes and mouth.....but real world it does when you sweat). I had it at my time in the army and it really works.

Mosquito sit down on you and can't find the place to drill, so they lift up again.

(Works on EU mosquitoes not tested on Thai mosquitoes, but I read it was developed for Vietnam war so it should work).

If you compare putting some chemical on your skin with Dengue than for sure the chemical is the healthier choice.

Off is very good. Bright orange spray can. Shop around as it can be quite expensive (should be about 130-160 thb). Also available in lotion (not tried) and a belt clip on diffuser (again not tried)

I think this I head came in green pump spray....

Important is to have it everywhere on the skin, if you left out 1 cm the mosquito will bite there.

Got result Dengue Fever which turned me into an anti-mosquito fanatic.....Dengue Fever is an impressive experience.

your supposed to get a 2nd shot 6 months after the 1st one, probably for the immunity to last at its fullest effect, i did
