Free-Trade Zone suggested for Suvarnabhumi

The Director of the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) says establishment of free-trade zones will attract more foreign investors to Thailand as well as increase Thai exports.

Mr. Maitri Srinarawat (ไมตรี ศรีนราวัฒน์) commented that setting up the free-trade zone in Suvarnabhumi Airport will be an important part that helps reduce the cost of importing raw materials for goods manufacturing in Thailand. He also believed that goods produced for export will rise to 5 million tonnes per annum within 5 years, by which time Thailand will be able to beat up other trade rivals such as Singapore and Hong Kong.

He said such a free-trade zone will allow imports of goods en mass into Thailand, resulting in more foreign investors using the country as well as the new Suvarnabhumi Airport as their logistics hub.
