Foa Monthly Border Runners In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Id like to know what the guys who do the monthly border runs intend to do now that the immigration rules have changed on the 30 day stamp and dont hold non-immigration visas, work permits etc.

What will u do now to prolong your stay in Thailand? The reason why i ask is because i could be in the same boat as u in the next few months or so and im really not sure what to do.

Ive been reading the posts on this forum for the past month or so and am now completely confused as what to do for a long stay in Thailand.

Some posts ive read seem really optermistic on being able to stay in Thailand, others not so good, with warnings of not applying for visas in places such as SIngapore, Penang to name a few. People being refused tourist visas because they have overstayed and it seems a complete nightmare. Im not expecting it to be easy but i just want a glimmer of hope in being able to stay in Thailand!!

Before when i stayed in Thailand for a year+ i used to make a monthly run to Ranong and cross the border into Myanmar no problem. Id really love to stay for a year +.

Thanks for listening

I work as an independent contractor/consultant for a malaysian based US company(BelgianNational). My assignments would carry me all around Asean for 2 weeks or so and therefore the 30 days was an easy solution to the situation. Lately business is down a bit, less frequent travel and therefore longer stays in Los and more border runs. The 90 in 180 is becoming a killer for me.

My initial action is to take a 60 days TR visa, with a 30 extension, that'll give me some time to evaluate the situation and to figure out what steps next to take. I hope I will be able to do this a couple of times, maybe intermeshed with the 30 days visa exemptions, but carefully avoiding the 90/180 with them.

This year/next year will also be the first time I will exceed the 190 days in the country, so I will have to put myself at the mercy of the tax collectors. ( I would appreciate if somebody could lay out the initial steps for that process).

Based upon how the thai-phoon is developing and what options than still are available ( I suspect we have only seen the beginning of the changes) I expect to have to come to a final decision around March/April/May.

So for the moment it is lay low, watch out and keep options as open as possible.

What does that mean. Ive been living here for the last 12 months, only having to do 90 day visa runs based on my 1 year multi entry Non O visa. I plan to leave the country to fly to singapore in 2 weeks to get a new 1 year non O. Will I have any hassels when I leave the country?

Most countries have a rule that when you stay over 190 calendar days out of 360 in the country you are income tax liable for that country. You have to fill out a income declaration form.

You do not need any tax forms to leave Thailand; and have not for several decades.

Urmmmm, u seem to have hijacked my thread. I suggest u start a new thread if u want to talk about tax returns and the like. Can we get back to the original topic, please?
