Russian co-pilot says his plane downed “without warning” by Turks

"There was no contact whatsoever"

MOSCOW: -- Further fog has risen over the downing of the Russian Sukhoi on the Syrian border, allegedly in Turkish airspace, by the Turks. The Russian co-pilot reports no warnings were given.

The Turks have said 10 warnings were given over a five-minute period before a 17-second violation of its airspace. US monitoring confirmed hearing them.

Now pictures identified as Captain Konstantin Murahtin have been released from his base in Syria.

“There were no warnings. Not via the radio, not visually. There was no contact whatsoever. That`s why we were keeping our combat course as usual,” he told Russian media.

Turkey has repeatedly warned Russia to steer clear of its Turkmen cousins in this part of Syria, but on Wednesday Russian aviation was striking in the border area. Murahtin said he was familiar with the airspace, but stressed the difference in speed between his SU-24 and their F15 interceptors.

Turkish television found the local Turkmen commander.

“The Russian plane bombed us first then entered Turkish airspace. The Turkish planes shot it down after the plane violated the Turkish air space. Thanks to Turkey with their humanitarian aid, Turkey is always with us,” he said.

Local Turkmen fighters initially claimed they had shot Murahtin parachuting down along with the pilot, whose body they displayed. They also claimed to have downed a rescue helicopter with an anti-tank weapon. Russia confirmed a crew member was killed.

Duh.. really, what do you expect him to say? that we were repeatedly been warned but we paid never no minds to those pesky Turks warnings? there are plenty of recorded evidences to show that they were amply warned and they just ignored them thinking that no one will dare shoot at a Russian plane....

Irrespective of whether Russia are telling tthe truth on this occasion,

Moscow has lied to many times in the recent past to believe them, 'reap what you sow'.

They may both be right. It's possible, due to a human error, that the Turks were transmitting on a particular frequency, and the pilots of the Sukhoi had a different frequency tuned, or volume down.

It's quite common, and there is not a pilot flying who hasn't been in that situation.

And thus the reason they should not be there unless they are part of the already active coalition in this war. They went in like a bull in a china shop and look what's happened. Could be absolutely what you say. Lack of coordination.

But, they did violation Turkey's airspace. Knew it. And have done it many times before. Russia finally got spanked for ignoring the sovereign integrity of another nation.

Is possible But,,, isn't their radio to scan automatically all the frequencies for activity? looks a bit suss ! especially flying close to or into some other airspace!

Somebody needs to check the IQ of the pilot.

Why, any fast jet pilot is no idiot , He has to toe the party line, what does he say yes fair cop my fault.

This sort of thing could happen over Britain , the Russians are always probing Britain's air space,

I don't see how what is possibly a switching error could possibly be seen as a reason for not being.

If that's what it was, it's not a lack of co-ordination, and no more than an error, a very common one, and nothing to do with pilots' IQ scores as another poster contended.

I haven't done any military flying for 25 years, or civil for almost ten years, and I'm not aware of frequency scanning technology. It may have been introduced, of course, but I don't see why it would be required.
