Noticed that on one of the really sharp curves on the Canal road on the way South to Mae Hia, one where I've seen on multiple occasions a vehicle off the road, they have red anti-skid paint and very large 45km/h sign painted on the road. Just saw an article where they did it on Doi Inthanon roads also.

December 22, 2015

CityNews – December 22nd, according to Pornthep Charoensuebsakul, head of Doi Inthanon National Park, to prevent and reduce accidents on the roads headed up to and down from Doi Inthanon, ‘Anti-Skid’ paint has been painted on four at-risk stretches of road.

Yup Ive seen that stuff on the ring road too. Going from say Big C extra on the superhighway out to Big C in Hang Dong, just past Payap Uni there are several corners painted with this stuff. When Im on the bike (Most of the time) I am always very cautious when approaching and riding on the red.

Anti skid? I think otherwise

That will really confuse the locals.

Probably cause more accidents than do good as is seen in the above picture, the car isn't even being driven on the anti skid paint.

Do the local population understand the purpose of this new red lane ?

I had no idea that's what it was - saw it as soon as you start to get onto the first mountain/hill on the road to Chiang Rai earlier this week.

I did wonder......

It's a slightly abrasive surface dressing, it's laid hot in the UK. Can be laid cold, but the resin is very sensitive to moisture in the air.
