Tot Ipstar

Well finally made the big move and signed up for the TOT 2048 kbps service.

They installed today and I am happy to report that I just did a speed test and am getting 1987kbps.

Am now able to listen to Radio, be on the forum, while at the same time uploading or downloading work from varied locations worldwide.

One thing is that they did not provide was any sort of email service, but not a problem, jumped right over and used my domain/hosting service as a in and outbound mail server.

Offered the Engineer the customary extra money for getting hooked on short notice and got the reply "We hope that you are happy with the service" no need to pay extra. I was floored for that was a first in Thailand. Hope the service is as good as it's technicians.

sorry for having bothered you with my question. just checked what "ipstar" has to offer:

homepackage "IPStar Home1024/512Kbps Package, the data transferred is limited to 8 GB/Month"

that's less what i receive and forward DAILY on e-mail attachments (not counting my wife's usage)! :o

i swear all holy oath it was not the portwine! it's that ###### disease Alzenhauser... uhmmm... Alzenheimer... or whatever it's called that made me mix up megabytes with gigabytes :o

for the record: i checked my usage of today (a slow day) and it was several minutes ago 67mb.

8Gb is quite a lot!

Even in Europe most ISP's will have a "fair use" clause somewhere where they can reduce your speed to 128/64 or something when you download more then 4 or 5Gb!

You can average 280Mb a day...

George;

I am thinking of installing the 1024 plan at "Baan Khutan" as I am only there about 6 days a month.

Does anyone know if I can have the dish installed on the side of the house rather than on the ground so I don't have the landscaper knock the thing over.

Great;

I think you have seen the Pictures of Baan Khutan, so the dish for IPStar can hang off the front of the house pointing to true south.

As I just about have 3 people working there full time, it would only be a matter of time that the dish gets knocked and then when I return, the internet will be off and I will be "Upset".

Please go here to see prices and plans. I have the 2048 plan and do not have any limit. I am located in Kamphaeng Phet province. Please do not confuse ipStar with CSLoxInfo and TOT. Both sell access with TOT having the exclusive concession.

until recently i paid 4.000/month for a real crappy connection (TT&T / Maxnet 1024/512) now i am with the same provider on 512/256 have an average download speed of 40-50% of the rated speed but quite reliable and steady.

7.700 baht plus tax is not peanuts but i'd happily pay that amount if the service is reliable and the quoted speed by "mouse" was not an exception. of course a cheap back-up connection 256/128 - 500 baht for bad weather conditions would be mandatory.

question for "mouse": what's the initial cost for equipment and installation?

Just did another speed test. Take a look here. AMAZING!

For me the 7,700 baht is the costs of business as it is part of the business equipment required, to do the things that I do.

I would be interested in hearing about the quality of the downloads everyone is getting. I have recently installed the TOT 1024 plan at 2600 baht a month. Connection speed is quite variable running from 200Kbps-900 download and from 24Kbps-250. Of course never reaching the purchased level. Of a great deal more concern than the speed is the fact that MOST downloads are corrupted and even multiple downloads have same problems. Right now I have a corrupted AVG update file (first time ever) and have not a clue how to fix it.

So thought I would download a new copy of AVG software and start over, can't because that file is corrupted and won't install.

I have tried at least 6 times to download a Beta test version of Expressions (MS replacement for Front Page) and have yet to get a workable copy that will install.

I have absolutely no details of the modem and am not able to do anything with the settings since it plugs directly into the Eithernet outlet on my computer. No website or assistance is forthcoming and I am at my wits end trying to find a way to deal with it.

It is awesome to watch that meter spinn at incredible speeds at times but quite another story when I try to use what I get. /for sure it is nice to litsten to music but of course data coruption in music downloads is hard to detect..

I am able to turn off the connection and still can dial in with my Bluetooth cellphone for GPRS and always have success with downloads that way.

If anyone knows of a website or decent contact information I would sure like to have same.

Hate to be throwing water on this exciting thread but here in the rural North East of Thailand TOT IPStar is not yet all that great.

I DO know where you are coming from. I think they have been working on the system because my download speed dropped from about 60 to 20 kbps. When the download speed was up, nearly all the downloads were corrupt. The last few larger downloads have been OK so I'm not going to complain about the speed. My complaint now is that I lose service for several hours everyday lately. If this turns to shit like my Loxinfo Ipstar did, I'll be canceling and using GPRS no matter how slow it is.
