The free version is limited and when I downloaded the exe file it said, shareware, so I doubt the free version is really free.

True that was some time ago and it may have changed.

Download anyway and to be extra careful create a restore point before running the program. You can then uninstall if you don't like.

Yes you can use paint to create an icon. Problem is that the size of the icon will be large which is what typical icons are definitely not. There are numerous shareware programs and web sources to make any picture an icon and make them correct size
