Australia links probed in Jakarta cyanide death case

LONDON: -- Indonesian police have asked for Australia to help investigate the case of a woman who died after drinking cyanide-laced coffee.

Wayan Mirna Solihin, 27, met with two friends in a Jakarta cafe on January 6.

She collapsed after complaining about her coffee's taste and died a short time later.

Traces of cyanide were found in her coffee and tests confirmed she had been poisoned, but Indonesian officials have not named a suspect.

This is very strange considering it happened in a cafe.

As for the suspect, who knows.

It could have been in the empty cup well before it was served or someone present in that cafe who had access to the cup prior to consumption did it.

The murdered woman and her acquaintance had previously stayed in Oz, that's the connection with the request for assistance for the investigation.

There are around 50k plus Indonesian heritage people living in Oz with approx 15K plus Indo students studying in Oz at any one time. Australia & Indonesia have close ties on security / criminal activity related matters, it's in Australia's national interest to co-operate & assist with Indo security agencies investigations.

There is also a history of Australian Federal police assisting after the Bali Bomb a few years back, using modern forensic techniques. The Feds also helped locate some of the terrorists using technology which could track mobile phones.
